I'm pleased with it - the tools have the regular snap and no play. Rivets look pretty good for being hand peened - long term I may look at finding a way to polish them up a bit.

Blimey Tony - you don't half ask a lot of your SAK.

Ronald Schroder asked me to make him a Bushcrafter and very kindly sent an extra SAK over as well so I could make myself one too.  I did mine first as a prototype and to highlight any difficulties or any mistakes I might make, so that Ronalds would be as good as possible. This was my third attempt at an Alox mod and I took the opportunity of using the black Pioneer scales given to me by Sak60 to make my own version of the Bushcrafter, The Bailcrafter.

Ronald, yours is all together and ready to peen but I'll do that after a goods nights sleep and send it on its way to you once it's finished.

Mags, I've been thinking... I'm so envious of your preening peening.

What's your technique? :gimme:

I've finally decided that pre preening peening one side of the pins before sticking them in a SAK is a bad idea, and next time I will preen peen both sides once the pins are in the SAK.  :tu:
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

Technique eh?

1. Assemble an altar to a Smithy God; Wayland or Gofannon - The choice of deity is yours - I find that the lesser known the deity the more eager they are to help. Meditate in front of it and leave decent offerings. Mead, pinstock, tools, bread, fruit or anything you think a Smithy deity would like.
2. Cut pin stock to size (about 1mm proud is sufficient).
3. Go slow and spread your time equally between the two sides with a smallish ballpeen hammer.
4. Do the middle pins first, then either end.
5. Take breaks to chillax and thank/berate your chose deity.
6. Use a punch to tidy the rivet up once it's all nice and tight.
7. Thank/berate your deity depending on how well it went.

No shims or anything to prevent the rivet getting too tight while you form the heads?

If I didn't have the Smithy Gods behind me I would. With them, there's no need. If you go slow and keep checking you have an indication when they're tight enough.

Now, for preening, you want Narcissus on your altar.
