As one ends, A new one Begins... Surge 30 day Challenge.

I begin thi as I ended the Swisstool Challenge. 

Okay, it's been a few days sense the official end of this (Swisstool) challenge but it's not exactly over.  Due to one of the awesome Swisstool Challenge) participants there is more.  Saturday night when I got back into town from helping my family with things my dad can't yet do after his surgery, there was a package in the mail.  That package took some doing to get into as the item it contained was so well protected I began to wonder if it was as fraglie as a piece of ancient porcelain and maybe should have been sent to a museum.  Upon finaly getting into it I found that a new challenge was upon me.  Now I must start a new journey, one that dose not include my precoius Swisstool.   I admit to being initialy impressed by this item but also fearfull of the days to come.  I have had a wonderfull monogamous relationship with the Swisstool now for almost 20 years.  Only my beloved Wife of almost 22 years (January 6th 1996) has seen more hardship and joy by my side and stayed there always ready for what ever comes next.  So now a new chapter begins Danni (my lovely wife) still by my side, but my ST put away while I attemp a new relationship with the other tool.  "Leatherman Surge"

I will officialy start this one on the 6th in hopes that some of you would join in and make this as much fun as the Swisstool Challenge. 
Unless the Mods say diferent.

We have LM Surge Challenge Level 1,2 and 3 badges already made and 10 people have the level 3, 30 Day challenge badge :salute: So you can either try this yourself or wait a bit and try to get more people to enter it :cheers: Up to you :tu:

Being that this surge is a loaner to challenge my belife in the Swisstool as the ultimate MT I feel I must proceed with starting on the 6th.  I want to give the Surge and it's loaner a fair shake at shaking up my preconceptions but not take advantage of the kindness and generosity.  I hope a few others at least are able to join in.  Sure would make it more fun.  Even if no others are able to join in all are welcome to comment.  It would be realy cool to see this get as many or more views and posts as the Swisstool challenge did.  Over 4000 views and almost 500 posts in 30 days, I'ld say is pretty good.
So who else is on board?

I'd love to join, but I no longer have a Surge in my possession.
Just conjecture, but I'd think that anyone willing to lend you a Surge for testing would have no problem with you thoroughly examining it at your leisure.

I sure will be keenly watching and commenting here, even though Im not sure what exactly joining the Challenge will entail for observers like me  ???

Thanks for all the well wishes and I look forward to everyones coments etc...  This is definately going to be a challenge.  Barely 1/2 way through my fist work day with the Surge and it's so differant from the Swisstool I find myself fumbling around  :ahhh trying to find the right tool.  I have been using the Swisstool so long now I can open any tool one handed and without looking, literally.  It's done everything well so far,  :tu: just awkward.  Will update more after work.

Only managed the one photo and well it's not any thing special.  So far I must say I am impressed with Leatherman's philips bit.  I realy did not expect it to work as efectively as it dose.  I still reserve the right to change that opinion as I have not yet run into any extra tight or stripped screws.  I have enjoyed the OHO main blade just as much as I remembered from my Wave and the scissors are awesome.  more to come in the days ahead I'm certain.

Well I have a Surge in working order...what's this all about? I carry and use it 30 days and have to post some use of it each one of those days? Rotating through all the tools?

I call that "every day since I owned it."

If I jump in at this late hour, does proof of using it yesterday count as day 1 of 30? Lemme know if not. Snipping Ethernet cable from a floor mounted network port, then removing the bit to use the flathead to 're-punch the connections.

Again lost the spring that holds the bit in, and used the Super Tinker to push that spring back into place. That's a known pre-existing condition. Otherwise it did fine.

Welcome aboard, you got the gist of the challenge, the deeper side is shairing your experiances, likes and dislikes with others who understand and appreciate multitools.
There may even be a few  :rofl: :rofl: along the way.  :whistle:

As one dose the 30 days consecutive with the Surge dose one progress through the Level I, II, and III merit badges or do they need to be achieved at seperate times with seperate threads?

Just go for the 1 Level 3nfor the 30 days :salute:

The Surge is one of the older challenges that we have and has the different levels that we don't use anymore (for challenges) :salute: All the newer ones are only 30 days :tu:

I did yesterday use the Surge to sharpen my pencil, help someone fix a water hose at work and cut some plastic off a few pallets of stone we had wrapped :cheers:

I'm going to have to sit this one out, Douglas. But, I will enjoy reading your take on how the Surge compares day to day with the SwissTool. They are like apples and oranges to me personally. However, the scissors and OHO blades are very nice. I also like the blade exchanger system. The LM "2D" bits are surprisingly superb. The fact you can change it after it is work is cool too. My biggest pet peve is a worn driver and nothing else wrong with an MT.
