58mm with Polished Stag Scales
on: May 05, 2024, 02:28:58 AM
58mm build with some left over MiniChamp parts.  Stag Scales are polished and from a whitetail deer antler shed I found a few years back.  Also cut slots into the stag scales for the tweezer and toothpick.  Tools have been Acid Etched and brass washed.  There's a brass liner in the middle as well.

Looks great my friend. What is your process for the pin heads? Are you deburring the holes in the scale and using a rounded punch to peen? It looks very clean whatever it is.

Pretty much right on.  Counter sink the holes in the scales a little and use a punch that's concave.  Modified the punch myself, gave it a concave grind.

When hammering on the top, are you using another on the back? Mounted in the vice?

No, just put the knife on the flat section of the vise (It's like a built in anvil section) and start peening the top with the modified punch.  It does flatten the peen a little on the pins on the bottom, but still keeps most of the rounded peen.  On the very top picture I posted, you can see what the bottom peen of the pins look like.
