Hi Doug,

I'm interested.  Haven't modded any, but such a column might motivate me to do a mod.

Good idea - Joe

I don't mind opening a tool mod forum, if folks are going to mod tools...

In fact, if folks are up for it, and willing to contribute, then I think it's a great idea.

Here's one of lonediver's previous mods that I thought was pretty creative:

Personally, I have yet to do a mod.  I really want to do one though.  I say lets do it.  I am all up for this.  I'd like a place to share information and tips on how to mod.

The ratchet idea sounds great.  I would like to take a leatherman charge and remove some or all of the tools from one side and add a ratchet.  The blades are outboard and would not get in the way of the pivot action of the ratchet actually, I think that it would be very easy to do since the locks are rather simple in their operation.  I think that I am going to be off to Wal-Mart and look at some multitools and some ratcheting screwdrivers.  I think I could do that mod in less than a few hours.

Remove the tools from one side and make a pivot pin the same size as the tool base pin.  Cut off the screwdriver and drill a hole for the pivot pin.  Fit it on there and file a locking notch for the lock to engage and there you have it a wave or charge with an intergral ratchet.  Sounds simple in theory right? :) :) :)

This is my first post. What a great Forum you guys have here. I welded a clip onto my Spirit. Works great! Also modded my Charge with Leatherman Kick drivers.

Welcome Kodiak! Those look like a couple of useful improvements.

Did you have any clearance problems with the driver substitutions on the Charge? Another member tried something similar recently, but the long drivers interfered with the plier jaws when trying to fold up the tool.

Thanks hawkchucker. I was looking to put a clip my Juice also. The liner under the Aluminum is about .050", that might be enough for a small fine screw.

Hi J-sews. I love having the longer drivers on my Charge. The side with the Philips and the long small screw driver needed a little modification. I had to file down the top of the Philips (top when closed) a little. Also, I had to make a little channel on the pliers head on the side. I used a dremel. I also had to push down the tab on that side. None of the modifications take away from the structural integrity of the tool or the drivers. IMO :O)

That clipped spirit looks really great.  Looks like somthing I might want to do.  Perhaps if a new section gets up and running soon we can have contests like the ones on SOSAK only with multitools. :)
