Hi, Spartan. I've been looking at your previous pics to check out the main blade. It seems you don't have the butter knife? Are you carrying the X model? Reason I asked is to know your experience so far about the butter blade. If it's a deal breaker in getting a regular Spirit over the Spirit X

Yes! Inquiring minds want to know. :)

I went with the Spirit X because I wanted a traditional knife with no sharpening issues (not that I know for sure that the butter knife has any sharpening issues).

DAY 19

 Sorry guys. I only have a spirit X. Of the different models, I chose it because I don't like the butter blade on the others. It seems cut well, but I like the looks of the traditional fine edge blade more, it just does a cleaner cut than a serrated blade, and to me it's more versatile. With Victorinox though, no matter which you chose, you won't be disappointed, it's more a matter of preference. :tu: ( personally, I'd stick with the X, it has every tool you could ever need for a job, plus it weighs virtually nothing! :like: :like:)

The Spirit is definately feature packed, ligtht weight and tough for it's size.
X or otherwise dosen't realy matter untill you need it to do realy heavy work.  It will easily keep up with most daily needs for the average person who uses MT's.  As a technician who pusehes even dedicated purpose tools to their limit Step up to the big brother Swisstool.  All the same features but beefier and in a heavier duty casing.

A few more tool compairisons...

Admittedly the Swisstoll is NOT an easy pocket carry and for that the Spirit will always WIN and if I could only have one MT and had to pocket carry it would be the Spirt.
Fortunately for me that is not the case and I can belt carry my beloved Swisstool (when I'm not doing a Surge Challenge(sure feels like I'm cheeting)) daily.

DAY 20

I don't have much experience with the full size swisstools Douglas, but my dad owns one, and I was considering asking if I could borrow his for the swisstool badge in the future for comparison. The thing I like about the spirit is how lightweight it is, as well as the awesome tool set it has. the tool I've used the most is that phillips head screwdriver, and it works great! :tu: I think for plier related jobs though, the full size swisstool would definitely win for tougher pliers. It will be neat to find out  Only ten days left! :woohoo:

Okay, before this challenge I told myself I'll only buy a Spirit X. But now if there's an opportunity to buy a butter knife Spirit at an excellent price, I'll get it. As I do carry a dedicated folder and a secondary SAK.

Thanks for this thread!  :tu:

DAY 24

Good question Nix! One thing I have learned on this challenge is never doubt a tool's ability based on size. I underestimated this tool a lot in the beginning, mainly just because it lacked the size and tough look of a Gerber or Leatherman tool. After using it at work and around the house for the past month though, it has done everything from cutting plastic to pulling inserts out of walls, and hasn't faltered a bit. This Spirit has done far more than I could ever have imagined it being able to do. It has earned a place among my top EDC work tools for construction and camping in the future. You guys will be seeing a lot more of this tool, and possibly even a swisstool later on in the future! :D :like:
