Vintage Western Bowie 1965/1966
on: September 13, 2017, 06:26:54 PM
Vintage Western Bowie from the rare first generation (made in 1965-1966), before the "W49" designation was used.
A favorite with the American Green Berets during the Vietnam war, and in later years also in the bushcraft & outdoor world.
Beast of a knife in double tempered 1095 Cro-Van carbon steel, and exactly the same version as the one i modified for personal use:

Originally these first generation knives have convex blades with V-bevels, but this one has been reground by hand only on 400 grit SiC wet & dry using WD40 oil as a lubricant to a full convex zero edge.
No machine was used for this regrind.
The apex fits in the 25 degrees inclusive slot from my Tormek WM200 angle gauge and is frighteningly sharp with a lot of bite.
I left both the handle & the guard in the original state for the new owner to decide what to do.
You can click each picture 2 X for more detail.
