Discontinued EDC
on: September 20, 2017, 10:06:42 PM
Let's see your discontinued SAK's that no matter how hard it would be to replace you just can't stop carrying it.
Here's mine going clock wise from the top

1. Camo Hunter. On this variation Vic put a Phillips driver instead of a CS.

2. Deluxe Climber.

3. Wenger Premier.  Wenger markings on a Vic Bantam.

4. Pre pliers square shank Phillips Craftsman.

Last but not least in the center of them all.
5. Wenger Pocket tool chest.

All of these are discontinued and some would be difficult to replace but I like them to much to not carry them any more.
So whets your Discontinued EDC?

Ooh, that Deluxe Climber...  :gimme:

I sometimes carry my Craftsman (w/pliers). I generally believe in using and enjoying your tools.

The only discontinued one in my EDC is the SwissBianco Carver SW. Of the two of us, I´ll die first, most likely.

Great idea for a thread

I'll have to wait for better light for taking pics, but I actually carry quite a few discontinued Wengers, 84mm and 91mm. The fact that they are no longer made does not dissuade me from carrying them.

Cool thread idea.

I don't carry my '84 SI as much as I should. I might if the SI were still in production.

Thanks. Yeah, I find that I almost never use the larger Officer's blade. I seem to be able to do almost all my cutting with the little pen knife blade. I'm kind of overly protective of the Officer's blade. I cut some food at lunch with it at work. That's about it The few non-food things that I need a larger blade for, I usually use a Merkator K55K cat knife. I abuse it. It does the dirty work.

The 93mm Solo is my favorite for food slicing tasks, so I have a few stuck back in the event they become harder to find in the future.

So SAKs that were never in production (aka mods) count?  :P

My EDC rotation is primarily out-of-production SAKs and one Gerber. I mostly carry a 84mm or 91mm Golfer, but also carry a pre-hook Super Tinker, a Yeoman, or a Gerber ShortCut. Other than the Yeoman, I have duplicates of each stored away in the event something gets lost/stolen.

I'm also a fan of the Wenger Pocket Tool Chest.  Got 4 or 5.  I like to mod the screwdriver.

I admire you for not being dissuaded from carrying discontinued SAK's.  In my case, the moment I find out how hard it will be to replace something, it ends up never leaving the house!

Last month I found this 2nd hand Mechanic for only € 5. Now it's my EDC knife. I especially like the pliers.

My philosophy is that if I'm not going to use a tool, there's no point in owning it. Carry it and use it, or get rid of it. If it breaks or gets lost after six months, it did six months more work to pay for itself than it would do in a drawer

That's a crying shame. I'm sorry that happened. Unless your pulling a MacGyver move and using it to make a bomb, a SAK is pretty harmless to the public.

On the other side, your story has stoked my fires of patriotism a little more. I love living in the land of liberty!
