Yesterday & $19 OHT
on: September 22, 2017, 05:52:50 AM
Yesterday, I was running early to work. I live in town, but work 20 miles North of town. I went into wally world and did the usual clearance isle thing and found nothing. Sometimes I can find sand paper and light bulbs for a dollar or two. But, I had an inkling to go look in the sporting goods section. I look about once a week, but rarely buy stuff from the cases. Well, the normal side with knives and MTs was almost cleared out. There were two Kershaw selectfire MTs left. A Kershaw Emerson XL, and a LM OHT. The OHT was hanging under a tag that said $19. I figured it was a mistake, but looked at the fine print and it said "leatherman oht black". IT WAS ACTUALLY $19. Then I looked at the three Kershaws and they were $7 each. There was also a Gerber Order knife. I didn't have much money in my account, so I got the OHT, one Selectfire MT (big blade and 1/4" driver) and the Gerber and ran to the checkout. They rang up what they were labeled as and I am happy as can be. I like the OHT pretty well and didn't have a black one, so that was awesome. I opened the Selectfire this morning and liked it as well. The Gerber knife is ok, but not great. So I went back this morning and the last selectfire and the emerson xl were still there. I got them both and the whole case was empty. The lady who opened the case said that Thursday evening is when they marked it all down and one guy got 7/8ths of everything. Probably to resell I guess. Can't blame him though.
I will do a writeup on the selectfire at some point. I gave the extra one to a friend today and he seemed as impressed as I was. Hopefully it will hold up to some work.
The OHT in black is really awesome. When I get done with the Surge challenge, I am going to EDC it and a selectfire (for bit exchanger and big ole knife) and see how it works. They seem to compliment one another!
Here is a photo of the OHT and the receipt from Friday!
Edit: Added photo of all the goodies with the OHT.

What a steal! Congrats!  :tu:

I wonder why LMs seem to be on sale these days? Are they clearing old stocks to introduce new models?

Thanks guys!
Indeed, cheap stuff has become a rarity these days. It is quite possible that some companies are gearing up for first quarter product introductions next year. But, who knows? They don't tell us anything. :(
Maybe LM is working on an improved version of the OHT, since a lot of people have some issues with blade size, tool count and hotspots when using plairs. Only time will tell. It IS going to make it easier to use this tool, since I didn't have to put out $79-$89 for it.

I bet they had a Wave in the cabinet for $90 and a Rev for $39 right next to it.

I check Wal-Marts for occasional entertainment, and noticed they do put clearance tags on last “ones”, or special order items never picked up or returned.

I found my OHT at my neighborhood store, while wife was shopping.

Also, found a Rebar at a store in a lansing area for 45, did not get, but when I went back a week later the tag was changed to 25 and it was gone.   Clerk said it was last one.

You just never know what you may find!

Their rev and wingmans were $29 each, but I have two wingmans I found at lowes when they first started carrying them for $22 each. The rev, to me personally, should be $20. Not $29. I have been keeping and eye out for a sidekick, but those seem to be north of $35 most of the time around here. A rebar for $25 is awesome. Even $45 is good,  but I understand that $45 is still a lot of money for most of us to drop on a whim. The only MT I ever paid full price for was my stainless and black OHT. I sent it to LM twice for new plair heads and the jaws still do not line up properly after two new heads. I will wait until next year and see if they can correct the issue again. Finding a perfect OHT for $19 has made spending another $7 to ship the other back again easier, as I saved $60 on the retail price if the black OHT.

Good deal, I've picked up a Sidekick a few years back for $16 at Home Depot.  I also have seen the Black Friday tools ring up for a penny.  I was able to get a skeletool for a penny once, but the store employees usually buy them before the customers get their hands on them.

Nice! The skeletool is quite expensive for what it is, so $0.01 IS a real bargain. :like:
That may have been what happened to the display case at wally world!

I felt lucky when I found one and the other stuff. Usually I always run up on clearance stuff after it is all gone.

It's normally like that for me as well.

I just got a bit excited hoping I would find one as I have been wanting a OHT since they came out, but never bought one because I feel they are vastly overpriced. The prospect of a $19 OHT excited me. I normally do not get my hopes up on good deals because I know I will be disappointed if it does not work out but I couldn't help myself this time and came home disappointed because of it.

Sadly, this is how I feel most of the time. My father found two skeletools at tractor supply for $15 each some time ago. He just resold them for more. I went to another location and they had sold out. :ahhh

How......

I can't hit a price like that for an OHT bailing them out of TSA impound! I mean, I'd probably only pay 25, but still, this is new!
