4mm to 1/4" adaptor for Cybertool: does it exist...?
on: September 26, 2017, 02:20:34 PM
Got:
  • Cybertool
  • Selection of "precision" 4mm bits that fit the Cybertool driver, but which only range-up to a limited size.
  • Lots of larger 1/4" bits that it would be nice to use with a Cybertool.

Need:
  • A bit with a 4mm hex at one end and a 1/4" (6.35mm) socket at the other which allows 1/4" bits to be driven by a Cybertool.

Has anyone ever acquired such a thing...? My Google, Amazon & eBay searches only supply exactly what I don't need.

Didn't find one myself yet.
I've seen members here build their own though, some even ratcheting :tu:

Would love one myself since I just got my third Cybertool...

I can't think that I've seen exactly what you're looking for George, but you can easily make a 1/4" bit adapter that fits the caplifter:

I guess it would be possible to make something similar to fit the Cybertool driver, by epoxying a spare 4mm screwdriver bit into the back of a standard 1/4" square-to-hex adapter.

Looks like you went with all Ruby scales.

I started out getting the CT-34 and thought that it made sense to get a new one for collecting and a used one in excellent shape for personal use.  I did the same for the CT-29 but found an extra deal on the used one in excellent shape.

Meanwhile, I was hearing praise for the CT-41 and started my search. Unfortunately, it seems that scores of other Victorinox enthusiasts were also searching. Along the way, I spotted an opportunity to get the CyberTool Lite and jumped at it. Just when it was looking unlikely that I would find a CT-41, I found it!

So no, I didn't set out to get 7 CyberTools but I am happy at how things turned out. These are remarkable tools! Interestingly, I find myself gravitating towards the CT-29 the most since it is the smallest at 3 layers, it ends up being my most used CyberTool. Of course, I usually have my arsenal of multi tool SAKs nearby. :)

I was pleased to see this topic, because I would be interested in an adapter--just not at the price I saw on one of the links!

Jim

The 41 was bought brand new (webstore) last march as a gift to myself :D I could only find it in ruby at the time but I've seen it pop up in blue on the same site since.
The 34 was bought from a man who sells SAKs from airport seizure lots which he buys from auction sites.
Got it for a measly €25 so I didn't care it was ruby :D
The 29 was bought last week from the same guy and had ruby scales which became blanc on some spots because of sunlight.
It doesn't show on this pic but it's got black plus scales now which were send to me by magentus :hatsoff:
(It was a measly €16.5 by the way )

Can it be done? Yes. Expensive and fragile, you can tear a 4mm bit in half without trying hard. Torque sucks then you shear metal.

I'm a proponent of a minimalist 1/4" bit driver.

I think trying to drive 1/4" bits off a 4mm driver is less than optimal.

Considering you need the adapter, the bits that you want to use, and some way of carrying it all - just get the Vic wrench and bit carrier set. Job done! Plus, it's stronger and more versatile than any adaptor off the CT driver would be.

I show a couple of 1/4 inch adapters for my recently acquired Cybertool 41 in this video.

I just do not see how this is a good idea no matter how nicely done.

The chance of over torquing the Cybertool arm is just too great for me to take the chance considering how simple it is to carry an actual 1/4" bit holding tool instead to do that job.

But good luck proving this wrong if you want to!
