Yup. Personally, having just bought two of those, one being a gift, I'm curious to know just whose "oops" that is.

No damage to fingers or objects held, I hope b-martin?  :o

One would have thought the location of the threaded hole for the wire cutter was the weak point on the plier, but apparently that is thick enough to compensate.

Come to think of it, this is starting to make me doubt whether I should build a ReWave...
Cheers!

Oh man  That is bad :-\ What were you doing when that happened  sometimes it is a bad cast and the person usually isn't doing something overly tough for the tool :ahhh

Well this is the second rebar I've had that has had plier issues so...

Usually this means that the jaw had a casting flaw.  :ahhh

Bad luck!
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

I had it gripped on a piece of rebar that was stuck in the ground to give me more leverage to twist it out.

Cast pliers certainly have limits and bad casting even less.  Such a bummer.

Yup. Significant changes in section is usually the fail points on components.

Casting + Torsion =

Twisting is usually the description of how they were being used when this pics appear. The consumer is not to know this though, so manufacturers should either specifically say "don't do it", or design/manufacture the damn things so you can.

Yep, that would cause a failure!
I think even a Surge or SuperTool would have suffered the same fate.

Good thing LM will replace without a question.

Yet, I must say it, wrong tool for the job.
A Vice grip may have even snapped if twisted.

Keep us posted as you work through warranty. All the best.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Yep twisted cast pliers = snapped pliers  :-\ I noticed years ago that pretty much all MT pliers flex to much and will weaken the structure  :-\

Twisting which way? Like the rebar was vertical and the Rebar was rotating in a horizontal plane?

OK, that doesn't sound so bad. So it wasn't the Rebar that was being twisted, just the rebar.  ;)
What is worse is when the pliers are twisted about their longitudinal axis (this is hard to explain in words!).

It's hard to be sure from the pic, but that does look like quite a clean break, with no obvious casting defects

It is my guess from the picture, the pliers broke, not because of the pressure applied to the handles, but due to the material being held, shifted, torquing the the pliers jaws opposite directions.
Something will give, and it was good no one was hurt as result.

If you bought it to use it, then use it. Even if some calamitous failure happened, I am sure one of our members could help with getting the tool to a LM dealership somewhere that does have functional warranty support
