A good read ( Book Plug )
on: October 29, 2008, 06:28:54 PM
A friend and fellow boat crew member has just written his first novel . Well I've just finnished it and I really enjoyed it . I was a bit worried as I said I would give my honest opinion but it really is very good .

Its called    Reluctant Gods by Paul Hutchens

Heres a description

Quote
The story begins in the 22nd Century when a parallel universe is discovered. This universe is an exact duplicate of our own, except that its version of Earth is in pre-Christian times. The main character, Mark, is a shy, gentle, slightly bumbling student who becomes stranded on the other Earth in 73 BC with a few 22nd Century gadgets to aid his survival. Although Mark has a gentle nature, he is faced with some extreme ethical dilemmas when Spartacus' slave revolt against the Romans breaks out. He meets a runaway slave named Rani and they become lovers. Influenced by Rani, Mark uses his gadgets to make ever more dramatic and deadly interventions in the slave revolt.

Its available from amozon   http://www.amazon.co.uk/Reluctant-Gods-Paul-Hutchens/dp/1434397262

Yes he is pleased , but I think its been very hard for him . Its not easy starting out and I think he may have had to pay to have it published  :(
He is writting a follow up book  :D Which I will grab if it gets to print .

Even if it was a vanity publishing, it still get's him out there :)

And who know, if it does well, he could get picked up by one of the big publishing houses :)
