Rolson Utility Knife
on: October 18, 2017, 11:37:29 AM
My ebay cheapo tried to maim me the other day so I treated myself to a better cheapo, a folding & locking Rolson utility knife.  Not bad for the whopping price of £3.19 delivered off amazon.

It does feel really cheap, but it's better than the little thing I was using.  I had a better quality dual blade one of these at one point, but I've lost it.

It replaces one of these. I should have taken heed after Grant reviewed them, but I didn't

I don't know what it is, but I just can't get on with Rolson at all...

I've got a multitool thing of there's kicking about somewhere that's still in the packet - it was a work secret santa thing or something. You can have it if you want - i'll dig it out and take a photo.

When I was little, I remember saving up tokens from the back of crisp packets or something and if you saved up enough you could get a free Starwars Figure. I knew, even at that tender young age that it wasn't going to be a Boba Fett or Han Solo, but i thought, you know maybe they'll send a Storm Trooper or an Droid or something... Do you know what eventually arrived in the mail?

...Dengar.

If Dengar had a multitool...

It was to start with but I've used it a lot and the shoulder that retains the blade rounded and let it slip.

PM  me your address, I've got 4 more of them, I'll send you one.  When I bought them I got 5 of them.

I'm going to try and square the shelf off with a diamond file, but it's hard use days are over.

I'm impressed with my cheap buy. I'm using it for scoring tough poly labels so I can cut them down to size, and it's more robust than it feels

my favorite box cutter is similar to yours, and also feels sturdier than those plastic scales appear to be on pics.

I like the quick exchangeable blades and the nice, smooth folding action. The clip also provides very secure carry but doesn't tear up your pockets like G10 or other synthetics might do     :salute:

I've got a somewhat older Husky with a similar design that's not bad. I've heard that some versions they've cranked out over the years were pretty bad, but mine is still kicking after maybe 12 years.

Though I should note it isn't my go-to utility knife- that's an Olfa.
