DIY SAK Glowfob
on: October 19, 2017, 09:19:38 PM
I asked in a recent post if there's a way to remove the silver gray paint backing of Silver Tech scales [apparently there is: very long soaks in vinegar]. This video explains why I asked:

I may make another version where the glow tape covers everything except the rivets, but I like how this simple version in the video requires no scale removal and is easy for anyone to undertake to test to see if they like it.

True Stay Glow plastic is much brighter than this little strip of JVCC brand glow tape but I think my version is sexier. ;)

Cool idea, really thought you were going to cut yourself trimming the tape.

^Besides the fact that I was dealing with a razor sharp knife, I'm not very coordinated, and drink a lot of coffee (which makes me mildly shaky, but I don't mind and love the buzz), there's also the fact that I can't directly see what I am doing. When I do close up shots like that the camera is very close to the work and blocks my direct view so instead I look at the tiny point and shoot camera's display to get feedback as to what I'm doing. I also need to get reading glasses at this point but I'm reluctant to because it is an admission that I'm getting old.  :-[
Luckily I didn't cut myself.

That’s interesting, I would have thought they would have done something else, but still cool. I would have popped those scales off and used glow in the dark paint and painted the inside of them, funny thing is I have glow in the dark paint, but no clear scales..
