Form the Dollar Basket...
on: October 22, 2017, 04:39:48 AM
Was helping my Mom and Dad out with their booth at the Arts and Crafts show and got to digging in a couple of dollar baskets.  When I came up for air I also had a few new toys.  Nothing realy special but for $3, I got away toys worth around $25 not a bad deal I guess.  And they are aech a little unique.
First an executive by Colonial Prov USA,  second a Coast fishing multi-tool box, and third an Inox Solingen Germany advertiser for Frankische Rohre.  All are in need of some clean up and lube work but otherwise good shape.  Just some fun stuff...

I have one of those Coast Fishing Buddies too and I think they are really neat.

Coast Fishing Buddy

It's not a great standalone EDC type tool but it fits nicely in a slot in a tackle box, which makes sense as that is what it is designed for.  :D

If I'm not mistaken, I think Coast did a few variants of this tool, each intended for a different purpose, but this is the only version I've ever had.  And, I've had it about ten years now, and it's still intact, so it's obviously a decent tool.

Nice finds, Douglas!
Those coast fishing tools aren't too easy to find and descent quality from what I have read. :)

I'm not expert on fishing tools, but I think that is a "fish hook disgorger" - for removing hooks from a fish's mouth.  I think you slide it down the fishing line (that's why there is a slot into the hole on the end), but the exact mechanics from there on are a complete mystery to me.

That was a good deal. I would have paid $3 a piece for those and still felt I was getting a great deal. That jack kniffe was a part of a series Colonial  called "Swiss Master", which primarily consisted of SAK clones.   I had a version of that Coast called the "MicroToolbox" and it was the best cheap MT I ever had (it cost less than $10 new, ca. 2007). While a copy of the Kutmaster MiniMaster, it's still quite good, and I still use mine occasionally.   I've been wanting to try those German SAK clones.
