Sater Banko axe
on: October 24, 2017, 02:27:02 PM
So the 2nd Hytest has taken a back seat while a couple of others have taken over.
This Sater Banko Sweden 2.5lb on a 700mm handle for one. I'm very pleased with how this is turning out. Just bummed I miss hit the handle when hafting and put a small split in the palm swell, but the grain on this thing is awesome. Just need to sharpen it up now it has had some linseed

Nice handle. Refreshing to see no metal wedge

Not sure if it's called checking or chequering or figuring in other parts, but in Aus it's called fiddle back. It's basically the wrinkles from the base of the tree and is one of my favourite textures in hardwood

 :salute:
I'm going to see how it goes without one. From what I've read recently the metal wedges can be used to tighten a loosened head ifthe future if required

Wailing on some hard wood in the yard the wedge has started to back out. I tapped it back in and added some linseed oil. I may need to put in a metal wedge if it keeps happening. Head doesn't appear to have moved though

The handle looks beautiful indeed. Is a sheath on the way?

So just a trial, for those who couldn't see the above image linked from my shared google photos album, can you see this one?

Had a bit of a play this afternoon. Face cut  should have been a little further left, it went straight down the line. Made sure the dog was behind me when things started cracking. Nice little axe, chips were flying 10m
