PowerLock USA and ParaTool USA
on: October 27, 2017, 06:05:02 AM
Ordered both on evilbay and got them in. Nasty, rusty, and the ParaTool had engraving all over it.

Powerlock: Disassemble, thorough clean, steel wool on rust inside and out, polish on wheel, and reassembled. Oiled up and lovely!

ParaTool: Same thing as PowerLock, but had to belt sand the engravings off the plier head and handles. Some serious steel on these old SOGs. Thought I'd never get the sanding marks polished out. Four different sand papers and a polishing wheel.

These are just fantastic tools and I am looking forward to using both in the future!

 :like:
never got a Paratool, but the Powerlock is to me the signature tool of SOGs modern catalog. Not the best at anything but a balanced one, and neat example of the C.Leverage's uses and advantages
Excellent to pry and pull out nails and wood!   :salute:

My toys:

MTs: Surge (2x), Skeletool CX, Rebar, Blast, Fuse, Micra, Squirt (3x), Wave, Crunch, Mini, Spirit (2x), Pro Scout, MP700 (2x), Diesel, Powerlock, PowerPlier (2x), PocketPowerPlier, Blacktip , ST6 (2x), 5WR, A100

SAKs: Bantam, Executive, Ambassador, Minichamp, Classic Alox, Champion, Farmer, Explorer, Swisschamp, Golf Tool, Wenger Champ, EVO 52, Pocket Tool Chest

I must agree. It is a beastly tool. The pliers are outstanding,  but I do need to complain about tool lockup. The early locking tab is not very good, but will do the trick I guess.
Pulling nails? You aren't kidding. The plier's C. Lev is nice and the steel is outstanding!
The powerlock and power plier will be going head to head with the likes of the LM ST, Vic SwissTool, and GerberP600 soon. :)

Love the title you mentioned!
Definitely going to be fun to do. The PowerLock has never seen any real work by looking at it, so this should be interesting.

Nice work on those two!  :tu:  My PL and PA were new when I got them but my Power Plier needed some work.  I think it might actually be my favorite SOG MT so far.

Thank ya Sir!
Considering the time the PowerPlier came out (early 1990s), SOG really had a game changer and the most robust MT of the era when the Gerber MultiPlier(pinchy) and LM PST were the big players. The powerplier makes the PST and MultiPlier feel like toys in some regards. Only when the LM SuperTool and Gerber MultiLock came out that SOG had to step up their game.

The Powerplier I picked up recently was what reignited my interest in SOG as a major MT player.
Since I ordered the usa paratool and the usa powerlock. I have a usa pocket power plier on the way as well. Of course, it will need the same work the others needed, because I am too broke to buy pristine tools.
My only brand new SOG is the PowerAssist, which was an Amazon sale for $42 at some point. A really cool MT, but just doesn't feel as rugged as the early sog stuff.
