Key pouch
on: September 01, 2023, 04:44:21 PM
I usually carry my keys in an old fake leather pouch. Not very nice to look at or handle, awlso very easy to get torn/ripped. I've been thinking about a better way to carry my keys and made this one.

Sturdy leather, strong button. The bottom has a hole to let a chain pass through. I used a chain from a pocket watch. I can attach the chain to my belt/trouser and carry the keys in my front/back pocket. When I need, I can use them without detach the chain. I can awlso remove the chain completely and just carry the keys or use the pouch to carry any kind of EDC items.

I put one of those fishing swivels in the keyring, so I can turn the keys without twisting the chain.

(Just to keep you from waisting time making copies of the keys, those are not mine. They're rejects from a keymaker, just to show how it works.)

Thanks. Still getting used to it, but it works fine and I'm getting more and more proficient with it.

Nice setup.  I only have 1 actual key on my ring but have one of those electric push button starters on my Dodge.

Thanks. If I had only one key, I'd probably carry it in my wallet. I have at least 3, one of them being one of those large telescopic double-sided ones. When I go visit my parents, I awlso take the keys to their house/garage, which means doubling my keys.

UPDATE

The small clasp kept opening and the chain kept coming out the pouch when there were no keys attached, soooo...

New clasp, stronger and more reliable. No more need for the fishing swivels in the keyring (it won't fit the new clasp, anyway).

Redid the stitching, making the bottom opening smaller and adding one more stitch near the button. Awlso used a thread with a colour matching the leather.

And voilá!

Thanks, me too! Don't have to worry about having to hold the pouch while attaching the chain to my belt or making sure the keys aren't loose.

I like the new thread colour better, too.
