At one time i used a pair of pliers like this almost every day

Thought someone here would have got this by now... guess not many here have to deal with...

Well where i worked they are the most common tool for that, pretty useless with most stubborn seals, we ended up cracking them with a screwdriver and a lot of care to not hurt the guide. This is the tool that most times works best in my experience
