photobucket question
on: November 07, 2017, 12:31:18 AM
what does it mean when instead of the pictures someone posted being displayed, an image or images which say "please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting" appears instead?  Is it something I have to fix, or the poster?

It's something that fartobucket Photobucket needs to fix.  ::)
There was a big uproar back in July(?) when photobucket broke billions of images on the internet by suddenly not allowing the person who uploaded the imahe to link them on forums and such unless they payed $400 a year.
Hooked, like everyone else. ;)

All hail the hook!

There's a script that you can install on your bowser to get around photobuckets "ransom demand". I tried it and it works, let me see if I can go find it..

interestingly enough, I see all the photos in that thread minus MrWhippy and MultiMat's signature pics without any fix or addon.

Chrome extensions don't work on mobile - they're desktop only.

I can imagine they are saving loads of cash over at Photobucket. I can also imagine that people are fleeing in droves, and pretty soon they will be about as useful as AOL.

Speaking of pukebucket, I'm currently migrating the MTO lot off them and on to our own hosting. I may have a trick to fix multiple threads but obviously we'd need to mirror the directory from each of your relevant albums.

They are looking desperate by the all emails they are sending me...

Here's an irony. I downloaded all the images using a script. I spent a fair amount of time double checking that everything was there. Total folder size is 350MB. Photobarfit account info says 2.2GB.

I'm guessing there is some lies somewhere, or the images have been compressed/reduced somewhere along the line.

I find it hard to believe that all the photobucket images on this forum take up less than a terabyte, much less 2.2 gigs :o .

In an ideal world all the review images should be self (MTO) hosted just in case any photobucket type scenarios happen.

I'd love to pair it all off for easier management, the forum attachments are well out of hand, and probably causing unnecessary slowdowns.

but, we're a small team on a tight budget, and the time involved is massive.

and it looks like I finally figured out the only issue with switching the hosts, so any of Grant's photobarfit linked here on the forum are now hosted on MTO.
