Home Depot's Christmas Leatherman 2017
on: November 08, 2017, 09:22:36 AM
Last year they had Skeletools and Sidekicks.  I picked up a Skeletool because I already had a Sidekick. Well, I stopped in a Home Depot today since I was in the area and they are already set up for their pre-holiday sales.  I found the Leatherman display. This year they are offering Revs for $24.95.  Unless they come up with something else I'll pass. The Rev just doesn't do it for me.

If they had the Rev for $15 I may try one but $25 is not to appealing. I’ll wait and see what if they go on clearance after the holidays.

Yeah, I'll pass on this one too. Frankly the Rev seems inferior to the Wingman and Sidekick, which I might pay $25 for.

I happen to like my Rev very much. I think it's catching an unfair rep...

Two Christmas s ago, the REV was under$20, then after the holidays for $15. Then March new stock on shelves for $30.
Last year HD had the Sidekick for less than $30. It had the sheath but not the flat tool.
The Skeletool was $25 after Black Friday until sold out.

The only way a Rev is worth $25 is if it also comes with a $50 gift card.

Not interested in the Leatherman Rev at all. I also saw the holiday set-up, they had a bunch on display.

A leaked copy of the Home Depot Black Friday ad shows the Gerber Suspension for $19.99.  I was underwhelmed.

The Rev is $24.95 at Wal-Mart all the time anyway, so Home Depot is really going to have to do better than that.

LOWE's has Wingmen for $29.95.

The Lowes around me is a contractor's favorite so nothing that goes on clearance or potentially goes on clearance stays on the shelves for long.

I'd be interested in another Wingman if I can snag a good deal.

there were some skeletools that hit as low as $15 last year at HD, do a search on slickdeals, but it takes a few months after black friday for the prices to drop. I never found one at that price locally, but did get one for $20 a couple of years ago, so if you want the rev, wait a few months and you might get lucky

Actually a tool that's worse than the rev... the suspension. I'd be ok with these companies not even making those models anymore. They still have budget tools that are decent for cheap, but not those two  ;)

The tool is not much but, the sheath is top notch, holds a Wave, Rebar, Sidekick, Wingman and even a Rev.

Because I spend time working on cement and asphalt outside on my side or back, I would always remove my LM sheath, not with the Ozark one, it holds up and do not worry about it.

I can’t take credit, as another upstanding member suggested the quality of a $4 package.

I got my Wingman from a Home Depot holiday special a few years ago and I love it. It was my gateway Leatherman but I still use it nearly every day. I also had access to the Home Depot Skeletool deal but already had one I bought on clearance from West Marine. I didn't like the Skeletool at all to justify buying another one. I also bought a Sidekick w/ Croc from a Home Depot special but returned it because it felt worse in build quality than the Wingman, maybe that was a quality control issue. I have been wondering how low in price a Rev have to drop for me to justify buying it.

There are 4 Home Depots within a 20 minute drive from me so I usually get great deals, it's Lowes where I can never seem to get any deals from. Lowes over the years has a lot of specials on SOG knives and multitools and I always miss out.

I've seen these go down to $2 at my local Walmart. The other day I was playing with a new multitool they are carrying called Mossy Oak. It was clunky though but they made an effort above the normal Walmart fare.

I didn't feel it was worth 9 bucks though.

It was just a few years ago when I got my brother a wingman and a style CS combo for $30 at Home Depot. The prices on these entry level tools had really jumped since then.

The holiday packaging can be good bargains if you know and like items.
A few years ago I picked up a FreeStyle and Style CS combo pack for less than FreeStyle single.  This fall Ickes a Buck BLW and Nano  camo pack for under $20, when a BLW is usual sold for $24+.

Yesterday a Buck Canoe and another single blade for 20, in choice of scale styles, when normal stock Canoe sells for $18. Wife put aside.  (I’ll get the white stag imitation)

It is great that MTO members share the deals, it is to bad that our global friends do not always have the same convenience.

I'll look, but I tried to cut some insulated wire, the plier head skews and wire gets stuck in there and pliers wont open, needed a screwdriver to pry it open. then I took a Klein wire stripper and removed one hair thin strand from the the wire and it cant even cut that

I think this thing is gonna break if I look at it too hard. flathead bits have slightly rounded corners and no way in hell is this thing opening a bottle cap, junk thy name is ozark trail
