WTB Victorinox Master Gardener
on: November 09, 2017, 05:36:55 PM
Looking to buy a Victorinox Master Gardener, somewhat rare model. New or used OK as long as condition is good. My first post here, fyi, but I'm a regular over on Bladeforums. Thanks for considering!

Welcome to the forum Roamer.   I remember when those came out and were all the rage over on the old SOSAK pages.  Best of luck with your search and don't be afraid to jump in on the rest of the forum. :)

First of all, welcome!  I remember both the Master Gardener and Master Electrician in the SMKW catalog back when I started collecting. I regret not getting both. Even now, the Master Gardener would have handled most of what I need around the farm. And secondly, for those of you who aren't corkscrew fans--they're the only SAKs to have both inline and back Phillips.

Somebody on the big auction site is trying to get over $180 for these. Way too much IMHO. Apparently he has several and won't negotiate on price.

Seems easy enough to make, given the right donors:
  • hiker
  • alox pruner
  • spartan lite

Will give you parts enough to make:
  • Master gardener
  • alox settler
  • spartan

Done

Sure thing: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,9808.0.html

Access to a drill press without chuck wobble will make the disassembly process easy. I'd advise you to buy a couple of cheap beater saks to practice disassembly on before taking the plunge.

I'll happily donate brass rod for reassembly if you cant source any locally.
And do share your adventures with the community :tu:

Layer shuffle:

The spartan lite should get its lite/phillips layer removed as an integral unit, then put back together as a normal spartan.
The alox pruner gets just one rivet removed to pluck out the pruner blade. This then switches place with the small pen blade in the primary layer of the hiker.
The small pen blade needs its pivot hole enlarged 0.5mm to get refitted into the alox frame => the alox pruner has now become an alox settler.

The hiker is taken apart, and reassembled with the pruner blade as mentioned and lite/phillips layer from the spartan lite. => Boom! master gardener achieved!
All I know is that I don't know anything - but I can't prove it!
