Late night RAK
on: November 10, 2017, 12:41:45 PM
Last night I was on stand-by duty, which means I provide tech support throughout the evening and night.
This normaly lasts a week but last night I covered for a coworker who had stuff to do.

Around 1am I get a call from a man who's alarm system's keypad is bleeping constantly.
After trying to help him over the phone, I soon realise that it's not fixable by client with some help by the phone.
Only other option? Go by... sigh...

I find out that the man lives in the main city of the city district that I live in, which is only a 5min drive from here. So I told him I'd be there in 10.

I went downstairs, got into my working clothes, ran out the door, started the van and off I was.

I arrived at his place about 8min after putting down the phone and soon recognised the house since I performed an anual check on it somewhere in the past.

I went inside and soon discovered that the keypad itself was malfunctioning so I dissengaged it.
Didn't take my tools inside so I used my Swisstool X for these simple tasks.

The man commented on it and asked to have a closer look at it. He said that he thought it was a wonderfull tool but nothing for him to use, since he's a doctor.
I told him about how I ordered a second one, which got lost in the mail recently.

He asked what I payed for such a second hand one, so I just told him €30 + €5 shipping.

After resetting all errors and filling out the servicereport, he asked me if he needed to pay in cash.
I reassured him that any billing would come in by post.
He then asked if he could give me something just for me, for the effort and extremely fast help.
I told him that it would be appreciated, but not needed at all since I was just doing my job.

He went into another room and came back with €50...
"This will compensate for the loss of your tool, and some extra"
I was just blown away! I just dropped the comment because he started the conversation about my multi and yet he decided to make up for my loss, even though he had nothing to do with that story! :ahhh

My gratitude was not describable in words and most of you won't have any help from this thread. But I just had to write this down. It's the only thing I can do to show my appreciation now. :salute:
