Speaking of modded Center Drives, here's mine.  I replaced the serrated blade and awl with a u-shank holder from an MP600 Pro Scout. I also cut down one of the longer saw blades so that it fits in the CD. (they cut easily with a dremel and a cutoff wheel). I drilled and tapped holes and installed a titanium clip made for a Zero Tolerance knife. Finally, I made a custom lanyard using an old RCA connector I had lying around. I'm into hifi audio and I thought this was cool. It's attached with a quick-release so I can remove it when I use the CD as a screwdriver. (not really necessary, but if I'm screwing a lot then I'll remove it)

Charles.

Could that Leatherman saw holder be modded into a CenterDrive, do you think?

Charles.

It could however just off the top of my head:

the LM pivot is larger
to clear the lock mech the surrounds might require thinning or it will push upwards which leads to...
likely need to arrange tools in the opposite handle for clearance
and lastly even with the holder fitted adding a saw or file etc will probably make it too long to store in the handle

You misunderstand. I would replace the locking blade with the saw and make it a bladeless multi tool. The remgrit holder would go back in my pro scout.

Perhaps even a sawzall blade would fit that large pivot instead of the t shank.

Charles.

I did, sorry. I'm an idiot. Okay, let me try again:

liner lock angle will need changing over
the length might still be an issue

Well I’m pretty happy with my CD at the moment. I do use the knife far more than I ever did with my MP600, so maybe I’ll keep it as it is for a while.

What did you get the blade holder out of, in case I change my mind?

Charles.

I was talking about the surge blade exchanger, same as in HG's post.

Not my own picture but wanted to share it with you guys. I know the wave/charge platform is appreciated here but most of the time people miss an awl. The Dutch police gave the Leatherman seen in the picture. A wave plus with guthook serrated knife and a awl.

Recently (yesterday) got a MP600 Pro Scout in Camo, ... but I didn't like Camo, nor the partially serrated blade!

so here is a chimera between a standard black MP600 (with wire cutters) and this MP600 Pro Scout :

it features
  • the tool load out of the MP600 Pro Scout -but mostly taken from the black MP600 for the identical ones-, including scissors and U-Shank blade holder
  • and the wire cutters of the MP600 -actually that's the body and head of the black MP600-

and obvioulsy, to have both scissors and blade holder, I needed to give up the larger flat screwdriver (and secondary blade that I didn't need, as I always have a SAK or knife of some kind in my pocket)
Meet me also on youtube & instagram for mostly knives (and multitools) content

Here is my modified suspension NXT.

I replaced the awl with the saw from a suspension. I also ground the inside of the handles for more clearance, and was able to add a fourth thin tool - the eyeglass driver, using thin washers from an MP600. Without grinding the inside of the handles you can still do the mod, you just can’t have ANY washers in there. I didn’t like that at all.

I removed the plastic bits before grinding, which was really easy. I also took the opportunity to bend and straighten the handle so it lines up correctly with the other side. Overall the tool is much better now. Better toolset, even without an awl. I often need an eyeglass driver. I occasionally need an awl too, but this one is kinda crappy to begin with, and I think the blade does near as good a job as the awl in making a hole.

While I was playing around I fit some suspension tools in a spare mp400 body, and ended up with two long tools in one handle. Normally impossible, but the eyeglass driver is thin enough to make it happen. And the long 2.5D suspension driver actually seems pretty “right” in the lighter duty MP400 tool.  Using these two suspension tools definitely allows a larger tool load out. The other handle can have scissors or a suspension saw, then a load of flat drivers, for a nicely equipped bladeless tool.

Charles.

Tool Name: Style bladeless
Basis: Leatherman style CS
Aim: make it bladeless, add more useful (to me) functions
Mods: Replaced the knife blade by a Gerber Dime package opener and a glasses screwdriver

Not a very involved mod, I just reprofiled a Gerber Dime package opener to make it work in the Style, and since the blade housing is quite deep I managed to stack a glasses screwdriver (from a cheap Squirt clone) next to it.

 Very nice work Combo! :hatsoff:

I used a bit of my retirement time to mod a quarter inch drive to my Skele...works like it should in a pinch.

Tool Name: Gerber Dice
Basis: Gerber Dime & Splice
Aim: give the Dime better scissors and improved tools
Mods: Replaced the plier head with the scissors from the Splice (it's a drop-in). Replaced the butter Phillips/file in the Dime by the marginally stronger one from the Splice, added the jeweller screwdriver from the Splice (both require a little reprofiling of the tools around the pivot). Added the Micra nail file (more reprofiling and requires a bushing, for which I used the Micra pivot). Kept the excellent package opener, shuffled tools around to make everything fit and added a few nail nicks.

Tool Name: Juice EBTK (everything but the knife)
Basis: Leatherman Juice XE6
Aim: make a slimmer bladeless tool to complement a knife, or to carry in places where blades aren't allowed
Mods: just removed the two blade layers. I kept one side naked but I thought the other side looked mismatched with one full handle (with the corkscrew) and one skeletonized, so I put one aluminium scale and polished it to try and match the appearance of the stainless steel as well as possible (read: not so much). The main advantage is that the handles are now of equal thickness (Juice owners know what I'm talking about).
In the end I didn't use it much so I restored its full tool complement (but kept one naked side).

Tool Name: it doesn't really have one yet, suggestions are welcome (no Tooly McToolface please).
Basis: Gerber Clutch and Gerber Mini-Suspension-S (same construction as the Shortcut with slightly more rounded scales).
Aim: my take on the pliers+scissors combo tried elsewhere.
Mods: The two tools are held by M3.5 screws instead of pivots. The countersunk screw heads facing each other in the middle have been cut  in place, hence the rough look (but the tool closes fine).

Here’s a quick little mod for the SOG power pint. I wanted a real flat driver and the bottle opener obliged after a little grinding.

I have modded a couple of my Leatherman tools. I didn't specifically designate them a new name though.
The Wave has been modded to the specs of a Wave+ (plus the 154cm main blade). Also the wood saw has been replaced with a Victorinox scissor and the Wave scissor with an awl I made from the medium screwdriver.
The Charge Ti started its life as an older model Charge ALX and has been gradually upgraded. 1st the main blade was swapped to a S30V blade, then the pliers have been swapped with a Rebar. Later the Victorinox scissors moved in and the Rebar also donated the awl. And when I got the Titanium scales for cheap on the bay, I replaced them too.
The old Surge was updated to the specs of the new surge, scissors, multiblade holder and pliers head moved in. The frame and the plier head had to be modified a bit to make the new tools fit. Both surges now have the big and the small bit holder (the only mod to the new surge).
The silver Super Tool 300 has the saw replaced with the multiblade holder from the old surge. It also now houses a pair of wave scissors and a big bit holder from a surge, therefore the file had to go.
The black Super Tool 300 only received a pair of scissors from a Wave.
Finally the silver Rebar donated the pliers head and the awl to the Charge Ti, it got the scissors in return.
The black Rebar received the scissors from a black wave.

I also added pictures of my original Supertool, PSTII and original Wave. Those tools where all purchased during deployments, the Supertool and the Wave even got engraved.
The rest of the tools, a wingman, OHT, MUT, Juice Pro and Micra aren't modded.
The holsters are for the two surges (top row) and the wave+ and charge ti (bottom row).

I hope you like them.

I've finally managed to replace the micro-driver on my Wave+ with an awl that I'm happy with.

I ground down a flat driver from an old Sidekick into an awl that has roughly the same blade length (actually slightly more) than the Victorinox SwissTool's awl, yet still fits the Wave+ WITHOUT interfering with the plier rest tab. If you look closely, you can see a half-circle divot near the bevel, which is the remnant of the flathead driver quick-identification marking that the Sidekick's drivers have.

It turns out that the Sidekick driver is a better shape for awl conversion than the Wave/Charge/Rebar/Blast/Fuse/Kick/Bond/etc. standard large flathead driver because the retrieval tab is located much closer to the pivot on the Sidekick driver, allowing for a longer awl blade (by which I mean, the blade can be inserted deeper into holes before the retrieval tab interferes) relative to the overall tool length.

I did have to grind the retrieval tab flush with the rest of the tools in order for the handles to close all the way.
