COOL!!  :like:
Last week I bought a Rambler as a gift for a friend. This weekend he's gonna receive it. I didn't know about the magnitised Phillips. Now I can show him! (And must have one of these Ramblers myself...)

You can still use the method on over cast days. If it is straight up black cloudy day, your boned.

Nice video!  Since I don't wear a watch but do have one of those Rambler's, I am gonna have to check to see if it is magnetic or not.

Thx for the info!

EDIT:  I just checked my Rambler and it is magnetized.  I didn't know that!  I wonder how many people have checked their sak's out because of this video!  LOL

Thanks everyone.

Although I think they have their place, compasses are overrated. What you really want is a map and a red X showing where you are on the map! ;)

People seem to have this fantasy that if they pack a compass in their survival kits then they can't get lost in the wilderness. It's not that simple.

Maps don´t always help. At least with a compass you won´t go wandering in circles.

Say you do have a compass, but not a map, and you are completely lost. What's the direction you should you go?

Any direction will do. Walking in a straight line will cause you to hit a road or a river, eventually, and maybe find people. Walking in circles will get you starved.

I think its best to walk downhill. It takes less energy to cover the same ground as uphill and will eventually lead you to where the rain water goes. Besides being a good place to find civilization fresh water (to sterilize for drinking) is usually a top priority in these situations.

Any idea why people walk in circles, especially in desert areas?
Because the steps you take with your right leg (if you are "right legged") are slightly larger than those taken with your left leg! :salute:
