LM can opener to package opener
on: November 20, 2017, 04:27:16 PM
A little over a year ago, in response to a question about fitting a Wingman package opener into a Rebar, Pancho65 replied that he had sharpened, (reshaped?) the can opener on both a Rebar and Supertool into a very effective package opener, and that he'd gotton the idea from SteveC who had done the same thing.  Just wondering if either of you guys, (or both😁) could post pictures?  thanks in advance.......tony

thanks Steve.......looks like you just did the very tip and rounded it a bit, and left the rest originalu.  File?  And just the one side, correct?  thanks again.  I wonder if Pancho did his the same?

Nice to see the can opener turned into something useful. At least in my opinion. I don't really eat food from cans and when I do the cans have a pop top. :tu:

Yes, just the one side. I rounded it because the tip was sticking through the slot on the lock spring on my modded Rebar.

I used a Diamond file and regular file to do it.

My can opener is in a different spot on my Rebar so I left the point :pok: :D I did similar to what Steve did but actually just sharpened it more than anything :tu: I will have to look for a pic though as daylight is gone here  ;)

I actually used a thin diamond plate to accomplish this on mine  A LM diamond file would also suffice :tu:

What Aloha said :D They are only about 1/16 of an inch thick which allows you to get to the opener at a good angle and work :tu: Anything thicker might get in the way  The LM file is also thin enough

Sorry for the lack of explanation

Funny, brings back memories how several decades ago  I sharpened the can opener of my first copycat SAK using my dad's bench grinder ("safety goggles? what safety goggles? Na don't need those") - the steel of that turned out to be better at keeping an edge than the main blade
