Day 12

No my wiskey didnt turn blue, my wife clearcoated the label, added a stopper spout and filled it with soap. Not quite a project but a cool repurpose.

Fall tree w/ knife pic.

I'm glad I checked this because for some reason it didn't post when I tried to do it 5 hours ago. I'm pretty sure it was just me.

Yep seems my pic is too big.

It's that time I do it once in every challenge; more of this boring card cutting.

For those that don't know my company uses printed tags to ID customer orders. In order to keep track of what we do on a daily basis and log it at the end of the day we stick those tags to an extra piece of packing material. Any notes or variation also gets noted on these tags.

Today is not about the knife but rather about the Firebiner. I got this two weeks ago to trade out a cheap copy of the LM Carabiner multi-tool in my Edc.
All in all it has performed exactly as expected and done every task that the maker claims it does. The cutter is sharp and can be removed to sharpen; the clip strong it's a good design; and the striker puts off a good amount of spark that had no trouble getting some fire starter cubes going. There's only one problem with it the bottle opener. Now the bottle openers is extra deep so it protects the cutter but being as deep and sharp as it is the bottle opener itself tends to snag on stuff. I think I'm going to end up using some shrink sleeving to make a sliding rubber cover for it.

Day 16
Today is not a Traditional folder like the Opnel in the pic, but rather that 1960s Sabatier chef's knife.

This knife has been through alot of neglect in its life. The surface is pocked with rust, as such the edge is covered teeny tiny chips where it has eroded away, there even looks to be two 3/8 in stress cracks half way down. (or they may just be at stretches from rust) But for all its flaws this is one of best kitchen knives I have ever encountered. I wish I had more of this quality.
I really should just grind it back and reap profile it when the past the edge chipping but there's also some sentimental value to this one.
Pictured next to the master of modern infomercial... Ron Popeil Showtime six star.

Whats a page on the RR Pliers without looking at the pliers. In this case compaired next to Vic and Wenger pliers.
Overall they are similar enough and usefull. The Wenger bieng slip joint has the widest opening jaws but is so pollished it has the least agressive teath. The Vic has the most agressive bolt teeth and the smallest wire cutter notch. The RR is designed similar to the Vic but falls in the middle for teeth with an even 50/50 flat vs bolt surface, but is also has the smallest open spread.

I was going to test them with some 18ga solid wire, but the Wenger was the only one that could even fit it in the cutter. This was suprising given the hole type cutter instead of a notch at the back of the jaws, and it cut quite well given it isnt sharp. The Wenger and Vic also have a v crimper; the Vic behind the jaw, the Wenger on the arm and spring lever.

Guest stars today are Victorinox Skipper and a late '90s Wenger Tradesman

Day18
It finally came in! It finally came in!  :mail:
Figured I'd show off a new bit of Gun Leather I just got. I matched clearance discounts and bunch of store credit so in the end it cost me shipping. (and even part of that got covered by the credit)

The harness fits great this thing is super comfortable when I tried it on.
Unfortunately that's also the downside is it's non-returnable and it doesn't fit my gun.

My gun is within the range of weapons listed for this particular holster. Unfortunately it stops a little over an inch shorter where it needs to be to seat properly. And to top it off this was a clearance non-returnable item.  :pok:

Oh well, everyone ends up with a box in the bottom of their closet full of holsters that don't quite work for them; but that's not the fate of this one. My plan is to remove this one rivet and trim back the stitching right behind it, putting two new rivets at the top and bottom to anchor the stitching that I'm leaving behind. I may even restitch over it. This should open up the extra little bit of space in front of the strap grommet needed to accommodate the front of the trigger guard and allow it to seat properly.
Since I used to do harness work professionally this should hopefully be a simple task.

Allready fixed it last night. Pulled the rivet and that curved line of stitching in front of the strap gromet and it fits fine now. Used superglue to anchor the last stich until I can get a couple new rivets.

I had to alter a IWB holster that was letting the gun sit to deep. A pop rivet fixed it right up.
Some day I'll stitch it so it looks better.

Day 24
  :mail: Mail Call
I picked up the mail on my way to work tonight and what's in the Schrade box? It's a current production black oxide Schrade Tough Tool ST1NB. The BO coating on this feels more like a heavy tool enamel a comparison to the coating on my MP600, OHT, Kershaw folder. I would also like to add that it doesn't feel as "finished" as my old ST2. That aside it doesn't seem  like it would  be a bad basic starter ot beater tool and I certainly wouldn't scoff at it.

Day 26
This will be a double post due to extra cooking pics

In the kitchen with the Opnel no8.
Last week I showed off a 4star Sabatier but I also tossed an Opnel in the pic simply because it is also French.

This week I am making home made Sloppy Joes using the Opnel for the prep.
Always rember kids; a carbon steel blade will stain & patina instantly when cutting types of food. This is not a bad thing and does not mean your knife is dirty. Just rember to clean and oil it afterwards with a food safe protectant like vegtable oil.

The recipe I am using comes from a random cooking blog I Googled:
https://www.fivehearthome.com/homemade-sloppy-joes/

Alterations made were;
1/2cup ea peppers & onions sauteed
(Recomended stir in)
1/4 tsp Cayenne powder
Changed mustard to a Spicy Brown Deli mustard
Increased meat to 1.5 lbs
Let simmer down extra

I find the small, cheep grocrey store generic buns work better for this than the soft and fluffy "gourmet" jumbo buns.

Ps.
SloppyJoe also makes a great topper for grilled Itialian sausage sub, you will never look at a chilli dog again.
