Day 15:

Thanks, guys!

Off to a slow start today, a lazy Saturday morning.

I'm now at the half-way point of the challenge. I've really grown to appreciate this multitool over the past few weeks. I'm impressed how it seems to pocket carry almost as well as a Skeletool and is not much more trouble than my beloved Juice S2's. And obviously it has a bit more capability. I really like the rounded corners of the handles when using one of the Rebar tools.

The Rebar may turn out to be my 'grail' multitool, as well.  We'll see. I may try a ST 300 challenge just for comparison sake, but right now the Rebar has won me over completely.

I think that's kind of funny, because it's based on the original Leatherman Tool. Maybe Tim Leatherman got it right the first time?

Congrats on the ST300, Nix! Reading the thread and seeing the purchase, I now realized that ST300 will be my next LM next year--just to have that capability for more demanding tasks.

About Tim Leatherman, I do think deep down he believes that the Rebar and ST300 are what most of us need  :salute:

Way to go Nix! ST300 and Rebar share the same old-school design philosophy that I think has made LM great. You'll like both! Pity the tool loadout has room for improvement...
ST300 is a little less pocketable...
And if you find you miss any tools such as scissors or bit drivers, what's to stop you (apart from warranty considerations, of course ;)).

Day 15 (continued):

Today saw a little light pliers action. I've used the wire cutters a few times, but I think today was the first time I used the pliers.

I was packing up a parcel and wanted to use some thick magazine paper for wrapping. Used the plier tips to remove the binding staples from the magazine in order to get full sheets of paper.

The pliers have nice fine tips that are quite precise. Made this simple, yet fussy, task quite simple and safe.

In the afternoon, I was tackling a few "honey-do's" for Mrs Nix (right now I have to be on good behavior). She had moved some pictures and wanted the hanging nails pulled out of the wall. I pointed out that with a quality multitool--and luckily I had one at hand--it would be a quick and easy job to do. She looked at me with some suspicion, but was glad to have the nails pulled.

Any thoughts on the Leatherman vs Center Drive (now that you've finished up your CD challenge)?

I watched quite a number of videos about him and he shows a Charge ALX when demonstrating cutting cards with its pliers. He said its his EDC for many years already

A Charge AL was my most carried multitool for years, so I could understand that.

Now I'm not sure whether it was an AL or ALX, but it wasn't a TTi. I was surprised about it, given that TTi is their top of the line mid-size.  Anyway, I still think the Rebar is at the apex of the PST he originally designed after he and his wife toured Europe on a budget  :salute:

Even with all the talk of the ST300 I really do love my Rebar :dd:

Tim had a TTi and a Tread on him when I met him last year  I showed him one of my modded Rebars (the one that has scissors, a diamond file, clip and now has black handles :tu: ) He took a pic of it back then and I do wish the handles were black then as well :D Very nice guy and seemed to really be into MTs as you would think a person as him should be :like:

A Rebar with Diamond file would be my only mid requirement to improve the Rebar.

Presently my SAK Vagabond which is my EDC always, has a scissors and file for finger nail touch ups.
My Micra also fills the gap nicely.

The BIG advantage for me when gloves are on, is the ST300 and ability to deploy knife blades.

Still love my Rebar’s, hard part is choosing which one!

Tim had a TTi and a Tread on him when I met him last year

that's exactly what he was carrying/wearing when I met him, even though he didn't seem much interested in the Tread at all
Didn't even mention it

As for your tool, I'm sure he's seen his share of user/fan modded tools and their own versions of his creations and I'm confident he's picked up ideas along the way, maybe even introducing them in current models as per other people's occurrences and  modded tools  :salute:

I bet yours liked him lots, as it's esentialy the "ultimate Rebar" that fixes what so many people didn't like about it

Day 16:

I was working on a sheath today.

The Rebar came in handy when changing out the blade on the skiving tool.

When using my stitching needles, I occasionally have trouble pushing the needles through the holes in the leather. Pliers come in handy for grabbing the needle and pushing/pulling it through. To keep the teeth of the pliers from biting into the needle (and breaking it), I put a couple wraps of gaffer's tape over the teeth. This provides a good grip, but protects the needles.

I like the fact that these pliers are not sprung and are comfortable to open/close. Great multitool.

I bought this one at a store separately, it didn't come with the Rebar.

Poncho mentioned it, and I went looking for it. Seems like a great 'tool mulitplier'.
