(Oh, and as far as old maxims, adages, proverbs, and granny sayings goes, this one is more true than most.  :D)

Day 19:

Snowing fairly hard here for most of the day, and the roads have turned treacherous.

Which makes it a good day to settle in with a Rebar and make soup. Today's soup is a Chard soup with sausage:

But it looks like it needs some Garbanzo beans, right?

The Rebar's can opener has been getting a real work out this challenge. I will say that it is a very efficient can opener.

^ Looks very yummy!
I love soup and it does warm up the insides.
Been getting soup the last couple days as work outdoors at 12 F with wind chills down to 3 - 5 F has required the extra warmth and nutrients.

I am glad you found the Rebar and enjoying its functionality.  As well sharing your experiences.

 Thank you. :hatsoff:

And stay warm! I find that long days outside in the cold and wind can really sap my energy these days.

Day 21:

Wow, just 1 week left in the challenge. I have been missing just slipping a SAK into my pocket, but, really, I've been impressed how easily the Rebar work with pocket carry. I have noticed a few times when I thought that using the external tools on a SAK, e.g. Soldier, is more expedient and efficient. It takes an extra moment to access the tools of the Rebar because they fold into the handles (which I kinda like in someways as well).

Today I went about improving the lid of my disposable coffee cup. I usually employ a SAK awl when I find myself in such a situation, the Rebar's awl was great, just a bit slower to deploy and stow. Of course, it's not always a bad idea to slow down for a moment and savor the java.

Day 21 (continued):

Barry, I don't know why they don't make better lids for coffee cups!  On the other hand....gives one a good reason to slip an awlsome SAK or Rebar in the pocket every morning.  :D

I got out for a bit of a hike this afternoon. The trail was hard packed snow and I wore some micro-spikes to keep my traction. Circled up the side of a cliff to get to the top.

Glamor shot of the Rebar near the summit:

Great view from the top. Here looking North-East:

The mountains off in the distance are the first range of mountains encountered by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark during their "Corps of Discovery Expedition" as they journeyed up the Missouri River.

If it weren't for this challenge, I'd usually just slip a SAK into my pocket for a short day hike like this. However, when wearing micro-spikes, I always pack a pliers-based multitool as well. These spikes are great and pretty darn tough, but you never know when you might need to repair them.  Some tough pliers could make a big difference in keeping the spikes on my feet and going down the trail. In addition to a pliers-based multitool, I usually have a little 550 cord and some tie-wire along to help effect a repair if needed.

Wow. Looks like the Wind River movie scenery. Beautiful pics!

Are LM MTs more susceptible to rust in cold, snowy climate?

My experience is NO!
Wipe dry and lightly oil the pivot points and the tool should last a lifetime.
A humid setting with dirt and wet gunk should not cause harm if you care for your tools either.

My Rebar spent the last week in snow and 10 ‘F temps all week.  Still pretty.

Thanks, guys.

Like LoopCutter, I haven't seen any issues with rusting. I do try to keep the tool dry and clean. A little oil in the pivots as well.

Thanks LoopCutter and Nix! What I like about the Rebar is it seems to withstand rusting better because of its shiny finish than those in matte. Just my perception, from a theoretical perspective :D

I have had mild surface rusting on the plier head but that is after a lot of use and daily carry for a few years :salute: A light sanding took care of it and I always keep them oiled fairly well as well

Great pics and discussion as always in this challenge :like:

those takeaway coffee cups...the small hole os a pet peeve of mine. I also enlarge them!
If you don't have time (or dexterity) to open it all and take the awl out, I've used the pliers head on occasion. Just put the fine-needlenose (one jaw only) through the hole and spin it, opening the plastic and punching a bigger entry on the lid. :salute:

Day 22:

A short walk turned into a long one when my navigator took an extra right-hand turn and we ended up in the woods again. There were reports of a fox in the area this morning and I think he wanted to check on that himself.

Despite his questionable orienteering skills, he did find us some fine country. The snow storm from last night was clearing out.

And we found our way to an old road where there are some neglected Lime Kilns dating back to the 1860's.

Paused for a witness shot of the Rebar propped on the crumbling walls.

Hope y'awl are having a good weekend!
