...I added scissors to my main carry Rebar and loved it.....

Oh, my. How does one do that...?

I'd take out the sheepsfoot blade if I could install scissors.....

I believe Poncho has a thread on that in the "Mod squad" subforum. Pretty thorough an accessible procedure   :salute:

Yep here is a link to it :salute:

Thanks!

I ordered some wrenches from eBay. I'm not sure what I'll do, though. The screws on this Rebar seem to be 'protected' by being pressed down into the handle steel. I'm not sure if a wrench will work easily on this one. Maybe. And then I'm not sure how I'd incorporate the scissors....after I source some scissors. It looks like the wrenches won't be here for a bit, so I'll have time to consider my options and needs.

All of the Rebars have recessed knurled screws in the pivots ;) You can get them at the right angle and those wrenches have great grabbing ability :tu: Once you break the lock tite they come off pretty easily :like: Message loki on here and tell him you bought the wrenches on Ebay and he may very well just ship some scissors with them if you paypal him now before he sends them and that might save some on shipping :salute:

I had trouble logging into the forum yesterday, but this shot is from

Day 04:

Was making some sweet potato and black bean soup and decided it needed a little tomato to brighten things up. The Rebar's can open works really well. With a Vic can opener, I move the blade forward while rotating the can in a clockwise direction. With the Rebar can opener, it seems to work best cutting 'backwards', i.e. away from the cut, while rotating the can counter-clockwise. Regardless, the Rebar made short work of the can and dinner was on the table in no time!

Day 06:

Used the Rebar wire cutters to cut some plastic straps sealing a box of MRE's. Notice how cleanly the wire cutter sliced that tough plastic strapping. Simple task, but I was impressed.

I was wondering the same. Renewing supplies for the bunker/safe spot or in case there's an emergency?

I thought everybody kept a supply of emergency food (MRE's) in their bunkers......

Stored in a dry cool place, they can last for years and years. And they're fun. I take 'em camping. Or today.......

Day 06 (continued):

I was able to take advantage of a little free time today for a nice walk out in the hills. It was around 30ºF (-1ºC) when I left this morning, but it was predicted to warm up. I packed a day pack with water, an MRE (meal-ready-to-eat, or, sometimes, meal-refuses-to-exit), wood stove, jacket, and me trusty new Rebar, and headed out.

I really like the leather sheath that comes with the Rebar, but today I attached the Rebar to my pack's shoulder strap in a nylon sheath. Very accessible and, yet, out of the way. (In the pic, the flap is opened up and the Rebar pulled out for purposes of demonstration.)

Nice day and lovely terrain.

Around noon (if I judged the Sun's position rightly), I found a place to set the pack down and make a warm lunch. I thought it would be cooler and that I'd relish a hot lunch, but, I was sweating at that point. Still, there was a little snow and ice on the ground in places, so it couldn't have been too warm.

Lunch:

Those of you familiar with MRE's will know that there is a ration heater included to warm the meal. But I also brought along a little wood stove to heat water to make coffee. #becausecoffee. I used the Rebar to process some dead, dried wood into little 'logs' to fit the stove.

The saw cut 'em to length:

And then used the knife to split the 'logs' into readily burnable pieces.

Yes, I 'batonned' my Leatherman. It laughed at me.

Success!

Lunch and coffee was great. It was a nice hike, but got muddy in places. On my way out, I came across some old barbed wire fencing. (Not in use any longer.) My Juice S2 has struggled to cut this stuff. The Rebar made short work of the barbed wire. Huge win for the Rebar. There was no obvious evidence that the wire cutters were damaged, or even dulled.

Good day using the Rebar. It proved to be an outstanding hiking companion.
