Suspension Clip & Gorilla Tape
on: December 06, 2023, 05:01:40 AM
Just a different way to carry my 91mm SAKs. Suspension clip attached to scale reverse of the shield with double sided Gorilla tape.  I was really getting annoyed with the dangling clip getting in the way. And, a couple of my pants have pockets too shallow to fit the SAK hanging from the clip.

The clip sticks out a bit and I’m sure there are thinner options.

The shape of the clip also rests well along the index finger in right handed orientation.  The only issue is a slight hot spot in the palm using implements on the opposite end.

Works well up to 4 layers. Haven’t tried it 5+. It’s probably been done, but it’s new for me.

Pretty cool idea. Those clips are a good idea, but are very annoying to clip, unclip, and they are too much in the way. This might be worth trying. Thanks for sharing.

Nice!  I’ve thought, MANY times, about doing exactly the same.

I used to have a HipClip on my Pioneer X.  Worked ok. Not the prettiest, but worked.

Thanks awl.

I do like the hip clip idea, but haven’t pursued it. It looks to me like it interferes with the corkscrew/phillips spot on 91mm. Doesn’t look to be in the way on the 93mm and 111mm models.

I should mention I’ve had the clip on mu explorer for months now and it is my daily carry outside of challenges. The clip has about 2mm of lateral play in the tape but the adhesive is still 100%.

double sided Gorilla tape

As a Gorilla tape hoarder and user, I will have to add this to my arsenal.

Edited:  I bought some in March, and forgot about it.

Considering this clip now as a better option.

Thought I’d update my perspective here.  Been using the small suspension clip taped to the scales on the Weekender and Explorer for months now and they work well.  The only issue I’ve run into is the clip is not long enough to remain clipped on pants with what I consider side opening pockets.  Sitting, bending to a knee cause my thigh to push it out. Interesting dilemma that I may try to solve with the night ize hip clip.

I’ll also be giving the night ize hip clip a try on a couple alox models. Same issue with the floating knife in these pants. Keeps falling out.

Maybe I just need to lose weight

I decided to give the Nite Ize HipClip a try on my Electrician. It’s quite the large clip, but it works great as a carry option.

Doesn’t interfere with a good grip for my most used tools, the wire scraper blade or awl.

I think I’ll add one to my Harvester and see how these work out the next couple months.
