Vintage Rigid R9 Apache hunting folder
on: November 01, 2017, 11:26:39 AM
This vintage Rigid R9 Apache was made in the '70's or early '80's, and it's an old school hunting folder best comparable to a Buck 110 on steroïds.
Since i don't own a Buck 110 at the moment i took a few shots of the Apache next to my 3-dot Buck 112 from the 1980-1981 timeframe, so the size difference becomes obvious.

Where all the Rigid knives i have seen so far have semi-hollow grind blades, this variant has a hollow grind blade.
At this moment i don't know if that makes it a very early or a very late knife in Rigid's production history, but i do know that Rigid did custom work on special order.
The knife had a very blunt "factory edge" imo, so i gave it a new one that measures +/- 30 degrees inclusive and is arm hair shaving sharp with lots of bite.
