Cute Knipex pliers.
on: December 01, 2017, 04:38:48 PM
While Xmas shopping it seems I ended up doing it again... Spot something nice, thinking I've been a good boy, and then don't trust Santa to deliver - better buy it myself to sure.  The spirit of Xmas I guess..

Anyway, I've been thinking about the tinyest ones of these for a few years and decided it was time. From left the Knipex Cobra 125, then the Plier Wrench 125, and then some stuff for scale. Their big brothers are great, and these should be very portable and still mighty useful.

I own both pliers-wrenches and cobras in both 125 and 150.

The verdict?

Whoever found you dead might decide they looked very lonely and then go: "Pliers? I didn't see no pliers.."

For the more practically curious the plier wrenches has a grip about 6-10 times stronger than the Wave. (About same length of handles to the fulcrum, but the plier wrench has serious leverage on top of that. And as a parallel jaw plier it has the same leverage along all the jaw length too. Can't help but like it).

My wallet is in serious trouble.
You just confirmed what I suspected for the last two years.
I MUST GET MY OWN SET.

I also like the cobras, I've got 3 of them, the 180, 250 and 300

The plier wrench has a quite impressive grip. Even though the Cobra and the Wave has about equal length handles and distance to the fulcrum the plier wrench will have about 4-5 times the grip strength at the end of the jaws. (Due to the leverage, parallell moving jaws - and shorter jaws compared to the Wave).

I MUST GET MY OWN SET.
Is that what what I heard you all saying?

I certainly can't tell you what you must, but I can only say no regrets here after buying them. I've had many of the other sizes already for years, and only good experiences with those. I expect these to follow suit. Knipex generally makes good pliers but these models are downright great.

Ever since my wife stole my LM Crunch both of these have been on the radar. This thread moved them up the list to the top :tu:

All right, I guess I'll blame you for this. I finally decided to buy myself a pair, when they'd been in my "Saved for Later" in my Amazon cart for a year. These days, aside from the three that have beefy enough pliers for my uses (Kutmaster's MultiMaster, Blunt Nose Gerbers, and the SOG MicroToolclip), MT pliers can't really take my kind of work. I got the 125mm Cobras.  At $45, the Pliers Wrench was a bit out of my price range. I'm hoping I'll come across some used Knipex at a flea market or yard sale. I've only seen one individual I know use Knipex, and he has an Alligator water pump plier.

knipex pliers will run circles around any multitool pliers (save maybe visegrip types) for any task you will ask of them, no contest.

I have yet to find any pliers with the grip and purchase matching a cobra of corresponding size. Not even close.
And the pliers wrench is a multitool in its own right. It is basically a small quick-adjust vise with handles. It also functions perfectly as a ratcheting, adjustable, non-marring wrench.

if it fits in the jaws, you WILL tame it, whatever it is.

Edit: If anyone buys these and don't fall in love with them, I will happily buy them off you at cost. This offer is limited only by my own lifespan. I am dead serious.
