You can still throw a few cents in. Might not be as relevant for me any more but we all learn and gain new perspective with every nugget of information that comes

I had nothing to add but I am glad you got sorted out for now.  I use small hatchets.  Not much splitting wood for me so the size and weight are enough.  I bashed a few pallets while camping recently and split the boards for kindling.  It was nicer that using my fixed blade.

I should have added to that picture,
I did try and you can shave with it but it pulls at the hairs, misses a lot and leaves your skin red and tender
maybe I'm just too sensitive  :shrug:

And I really did clean it well before sending to you Styx   
(Styx has had it soaking in bleach since I posted that picture  :whistle: )

actually it is on a high cupboard. some family drama has been going on the last few days and I would really hate it if the finish got marred because of that. lucky enough i'm taller than other people
