Actually, -kill (previously 'kil') means stream, or creek in Dutch. The Dutch settled that area and many towns there end in 'kill' today, with the first part of the town names often being converted to English. So, what was one the town of 'Viskil' (Fish Creek in Dutch) became Fishkill.
