I never said anything about throwing knives away. You could sell them and let somebody else bring them back to life. People do this everyday with knives, garden tools, woodworking tools etc.

If you enjoy sharpening as part of your hobby and even find it meditative as Lynn stated than that is now a useful application of your time. Congrats.

I stink at sharpening.  But,  when I do get one that sharp,  I have found it useful in the office to clean up areas on my face that I missed when shaving with the electric. Of course,  I try and be discrete so I don't freak anyone out.
