ST300 Locks ?
on: December 10, 2017, 10:56:11 AM
Hi folks,

I got issues with a ST300 I bought. After sending back 3 other tools with wobbly handles, rattling lockbars and so on I finally got one where the handles are aligned perfectly, no movement.
Until I opened some tools. See photos: the lockbars dont close fully.
One pic is the closed toot, the other with both mainblades opened.

The blades lock - somehow but I have trust issues. Did anyone else have this problem? Should I keep it or send it back and wait for the 5th or 6th tool with no other problems? I am kind of tired regarding this. My 2 Rebars were perfectly fine, I only got problems when buying ST300s.

regards
Michael

A brand new tool needs to wear in with some use.  It looks normal to me.

Can’t see any issues on the pics you shared 🧐

I too think this is normal. You want the lock to go to the bottom of its slot in the tool for proper locking with a bit of tension to help it sit there - it is not uncommon to see that this is not quite as far as when not locking anything (depends on the locking cam design). The latter not-locking-anything position is usually kept lower in order to release tension on the locking spring and prevent loss of spring power over time.

You bought a new ST300, there was an issue. You returned to LM as a warranty claim, correct?

This process has been repeated multiple times?

And, most current unit, the tools lock, but the lock released tabs do not appear to be locked?

Check the date code on each handle, if new I would suspect the date codes should be within 6 months or later.

Could be LM is just recycling No problem found tools from one user to another.  Unless you requested your tool to be repaired and returned I could see this occurring.

Hope yours is as good!

This normal, both my ST300's exhibit this on the outside tools. I wouldn't worry about it and try and enjoy your new tool  :tu:

Hi Shuya

My Rebar shows that same bit of light between the lock bar and its saddle when the blade is deployed. None when the blade is folded in.

It is smaller, but the mechanism is the same.

This seems normal
