They were made for "Smoky Mountain Knife Works" from the US or Canada office I think. Not a regular Victorinox product. Nice, I have been wanting one or both of them for awhile now. Hard to find. Notice too they both have the white led torch/flashlight installed as well. :D

Yea Tim has a great selection of hard to find items at the moment. Oh the money I could waste.

But yes, one of those Master Electrician's should be on its way to me very soon.

Someone snagged the Master Electrician already, but there's still more cool stuff on Felinevet's site than I have seen in some time.

At that price, I'm surprised they aren't being grabbed up as mod fodder
(though it's a pretty useful configuration as-is).

Here is my new Master Electrician. I must admit it is thicker than I expected for a 4 layer knife. Also I don't like having the fine screwdriver instead of the awl. The fine screwdriver does not lay down properly in the awl's spot anyway. Still its pretty nice.  :tu:

Personally, the loss of the awl isn't so bad as I don't really like the back mounted awl as much as I love the Soldier's awl.

Now I need to find another I can beat up while mine stays safe.

Your are so right about the soldier awl being more suitably mounted. I use the awl about as much as a blade.

Agree, what I'd like to see is phillips and corkscrew on the back, and a soldier style awl instead of the small blade on the 91 and 84mm line.

Both of these SAKs strike me as the result of a couple of guys who know nothing about SAKs deciding they want to build one.  There are certain dynamics to SAK design that are almost zen like, and offer redundancy only in rare occasions, and even then, only when functionality deems it necessary.  For example, the large and small blades are a redundancy, but different configurations and sizes are useful in different situations- ditto for flathead screwdrivers, which are rarely stand alone anyway, and do serve other functions as well.  Even the XAVT, which might seem redundant at first with two identical bit drivers is more functional than not because the extra driver houses space for 4 additional double ended bits.

The in line and back mounted phillips screwdrivers are proof that these guys were just adding cool doodads that they thought would sell without considering how the whole knife would fit together.  For example, one would think that the Master Electrician would benefit from the corkscrew, if for no other reason than to have the eyeglass screwdriver.

I think Smokey Mountain Knifeworks went for the redundant Phillips because they don't drink wine,
and don't think anyone else should either.

I am one of those odd people who like the 2 phillips heads. The backside phillips has a pointier head which can fit into screws that the squared off inline phillips head can't.

Admittedly, the bottle opener phillips can serve that function too, but I also really don't like the way the corkscrew makes the handle feel.

IMO they are fine if you have nothing else and are doing very light work like opening battery covers on toys, but the in line phillips is far superior.
I'm back!!
