OH Plain Edge Trekker Taunting Me

I like ALMOST everything about the Trekker.
I don't like the semi-serrated blade. I mean... REALLY don't like it.
And I don't like the black scales. It's not that I'm a traditionalist, although I'd prefer red to black. Because, honestly, I'd prefer Stay-Glow to any other scale color for an outdoors knife.
So... there is a source within easy driving distance of me, that, for more than two years has had a OH Plain Edge Trekker available. Only downside is... worse than black scales, they're CAMO. But i have it on good authority (and practical experience) that scale swaps are no big thing.
I haz a want. Bad. I bet this is the best place to come for people to help talk me out of this needless purchase... right?

If you don't mind the CS, then the
Forester is available in PE
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Love my plain blade Trekker (black scales). Knife Center has them.

Not going to talk you out of getting one.

It's hard to go wrong with the Trekker in any of its configurations. If a fixed blade knife isn't feasible a 111mm liner lock is a great way to go in my opinion.

And easy to switch scales to whatever you fancy; have done in on 2 OH nomads and a OHT.

How about a Dual Pro X? Nearly the same configuration but it has a OHO plain blade and a nifty serrated seat belt blade instead of a saw.

I actually like the saw.
I'm not a big fan of even fully serrated blades. sharpening them is a nightmare, IMO. But at least they're preferable to partially serrated 'worst of both worlds' blades.
I will give Vic this, at least they have their serrations on the partially serrated blade on the correct half of the blade. leaving the plain edge portion toward the handle means you can choke up on it and do woodwork.
Still, I vastly prefer plain edge.
I've handled (though never owned) the 2008 Soldier with the same style scales, except in green. They were fine. I didn't have a huge preference for them over nylon, but also didn't hate them. I really like how the multiple material scales look in Red and Black. Looks like no T&T on it. grumble-grumble.

I completely understand your feeling about serrated blades. I felt the same way before I got my soldier. The only reason I got it was it was on clearance and cheep enough I wouldn't miss the money when I gave it away. That was 3 years ago. I am a Vic 111mm 70 30 serrated blade convert. Once I learned to use it it became my go to blade for most of my cutting task.
If I had to say its weakest task would be as a kitchen or camp cook knife. For those task you would want the PE. ( push cuts through potatoes ect. Don't work and the serrations clog up on some sausage meat)
Other then that in my experience the Vic serrated blade out performs the PE in almost every other task.
Just my .02 on the topic.
P.S. as far a sharpening goes I have found the Vic serrated easier to sharpen then the PE.

I've owned a OH Trekker before and sold it. Mostly due to wanting funds to try something else, but partly due to the semi-serrated blade.
I KNOW the blade, I've USED the blade. I don't like it. We're all different in this regard, and I respect that some people get along with it fabulously.
There have only really been two multitools I had, got rid of, and really wanted back (that I have not re-acquired). The Trekker is one, although it'd have to be plain edge. The Swisstool Spirit is the other.
One a slightly different note, being left handed, I found the one-hand open and liner lock setup perfect on the 111mm line for me. Sorry for all you righties who may have issues unlocking the blade one-handed.

- I know something you don't know
- What's that?
- I, am not left-handed!
- Then I have to tell you something...
- Tell me!
- I, am not left handed either!!
