Episode four: Ben teaches Luke how to feel the force, so he can swish a lightsaber to catch a few laser stings shot by a training Droid.Episode five, Yoda teaches Luke how to run around and get sweaty, while force lift a bunch of small things.Episode six, Luke watches Yoda vanish. When cinema goers came out from watching Return of the Jedi, what did they know about the Emperor? His backstory had to wait like 20-30 years.

Glad to know someone saw the same damn movie I did. Everyone whining online about a lack of background on Snoke should remember in two movies he got at least as many, and probably more, lines than Palpatine did in three. Prior to the prequels he was just an old man who Vader was scared of- enough said. And honestly, that was a cooler death than just being chucked screaming down an air shaft. Snoke was arrogant, but I think he was a more complete villain than Palpatine was portrayed pre-1999
If anyone wants to enjoy this movie, stay away from reddit, yikes!!
Just watched it this afternoon. I'm still digesting a little, but I certainly didn't hate it. The big thing that really bugs me though (and I notice no-one else has brought this up) is; why the smurf didn't Vice Admiral Haldo just tell Poe what she was planning? No, she keeps it to herself and risks a mutiny that nearly ruins everything ruined everything.

No, she keeps it to herself and risks a mutiny that nearly ruins everything ruined everything. I don't know how, but as a result of Poe/Finns actions, there was the Master Codebreaker who alerted the 1st Order of the cloaked Rebel ships sneaking away... so it did ruin pretty much everything.
In the same vein....You have a dozen or so capital ships tracking one ship- one of which is capable of tracking the target through hyperspace. The target ship is the entire focus of the dozen or so pursuers, and all of the vessels are equipped with sensors and windows and yet no one notices the transports leaving it?Knowing the Rebels are very resourceful, none of the Star Destroyer captains decided to leave the sensors on in case the Rebels tried something? Haven't you learnt anything from Star trek? Stealth is magic. Let's also forget for a moment that weight wouldn't actually make a difference..... the Rebel ship is smaller and lighter and therefore able to pull away faster than the bigger First Order fleet... why didn't they eventually get out of range of the First Order's guns? Weren't they running out of fuel or something? Also, big ships are not necessarily slower than small ships, if they have inertial dampeners and large enough engines. Def
I agree that size doesn't matter much in space- but that's what they said in the movie, that the Rebel ship was smaller and lighter than the New Order ships. Also, if they had portable Death Star tech (since they landed it on the planet) why couldn't they have just wheeled it over to a forward facing cargo bay and fired it at the fleeing Rebel ship?Def
Oh, Pabs... there are obviously a lot of issues with Episode VIII, denial won't change them But I agree, E VIII definitely needs more Porgs. However, I do think I should re-watch in the hope of liking it more.... and to be fair, there have been MAJOR issues with pretty much every episode (except E V )

I saw it yesterday. I liked it better than the first one, much more.My favorite things:- The visuals and cinematography of the post Snoke's death scene, all fire and red and lasers and sh*t was well played and made- The hyperspace jump against the fleet and the visual effect it left, looked plausible and very aesthetically pleasing(but then again, why the hell did she have to wait for half the rebel ships to be massacred before charging against the fleet? Hundred would've been saved if she had employed that technique as soon as the rebel's escape ships left the cruiser Also the other companion ships could've turned back and rammed the fleet as well with their hyperspace engines as soon as they were emptied)- The development and acting of Ben. Much better than the first one and he created some doubt about his decisions and future- The island where Luke is. The animals, natural landscapes, buildings, etc. were cool and a different touch to the series' environments.- The return of classics (AT-AT, the two legged robot from the Ewok planets, the big destroyers, etc.) with some updated parts and looks, as well as C3PO and R2But then again, lots of problems- Yeah they should've let Leia die there, she adds nothing to the plot or film after that scene and now they have to make up something to kill her for the next film. She was obviously old and tired, let her end it in a good way. The return via the force was uncalled for and poorly done, adding nothing - Rose should also have let Finn crash into the cannon. It's improbable that they would've survived on plain sight in front of 6 AT-AT without weapons or cover of any kind, after losing both ships in the cannon attack - After the first shot with the gun against the door, why don't they shoot a second and third and fourth time and kill everyone inside the base? Or just bomb them from space, with the AT-ATs or any other distance weapon frying everything inside the cave? - The Casino planet and most things happening there were quite irrelevant, too many stupid details and "fun" things, poorly made and only added extra length and time to the movie...Del Toro wasn't that good at acting and it's unlikely he knew the rebel's plans or had time to communicate with the first Order to set a trap... - The mirror scene from Rey was really poor and obvious CGI, and also added nothing to the plot IMO. Luke's death was lame and just random/unnecessary. Really bad CGI too at the crystal/salt planet when Rey moves the rocks and lets them fall.overall I wasn't really pleased with it, but was much more entertaining then the previous one, but still too long
I assume the idea of the gun was to crack open the door, not destroy the entire base and occupants to capture for questioning, otherwise orbital bombardment would have been the attack of choice. Also, it likely required time to build a charge.
