I rather like penlights for pocket carry... so show me yours.

1st image, from left to right 2xAAA, Coast HP3, 5.11 PLx and ThruNite Ti4 NW... the rest you have to figure out yourself.

Cool.  Thanks for sharing.  Penlight were a classic carry for men when I was a kid. I still think it's a cool form factor, and have a 2xaaa Maglight that's fun.

The form factor is more than just cool... it carries very well in pants and the long shape makes it easy to attach them anywhere.
Yesterday, I forgot my bikelight at home, something that happens rarely, but it did. While I don't think flashlights can replace a good bike light on a permanent base, for an emergency they do just fine (lack of vertical cut-off and narrow beam-path are their limitation). Using 2 re-usable Zip-ties that are always on my bike, I quickly attached the Coast to my bike.

I ranked them in 3 categories: how easy it was to attach them, how well it lit my path, and how well it made me visible. I also checked the illumination from 10m in front and 10m to the sides, but those pictures were terrible. Also, I took the pictures with my mobile phone, so while you can see the beam pattern, you cannot judge/compare intensity or color. The results were fairly close.

Coast HP3 (105 lumen)
Thanks to its size and the knurling it was easily attached. At its floodiest it gave a decent wide beam but it was clearly the narrowest of the three. It is also not a terribly bright light
Attaching: 1st
Path Illumination: 3rd
Safety Illumination: 3rd

5.11 PLx (90 lumen)
Its slightly squarish body and knurling made it easy to attach. By far the floodiest light. Which on one hand was a bit surprising, 5.11 is directed at security personnel, so I would have expected more of a spotlight. On the other hand it has the smallest reflector. It gives a very wide beam, not just illuminating the road in front of you, but also to the sides.
Attaching: 2nd
Path Illumination: 2nd
Safety Illumination: 1st

ThruNite Ti4 (252 lumen)
Its slim body and the absence of any knurling made it a bit more difficult to attach. But thanks to the fact, that the head is slightly wider than the body and the pocket clip, it was still easy to attach it safely. While the difference in brightness was not so apparent with the other two, this one took it up a notch. it has a well defined beam pattern. It was an easy call with Path Illumination, but a very close one with safety Illuminatin. Ultimately, the 1st place went to the 5.11, because it was better visible from wide angles and was less irritating for oncoming traffick.
Attaching: 3rd
Path Illumination: 1st
Safety Illumination: 2nd

In my book? Yes! But just from looking at it, I think the clip does not let it sink into the pants enough.

I should be working... but I was looking at more penlights.

Klarus P20 is clearly on my radar, so is the Nitecore MT06(MD). I find the Streamlight Stylus Pro 360 very interesting, but is probably not for me... then I noticed something :ahhh Foursevens are sold out everywhere :ahhh they have closed shop :ahhh fortunately, they will reboot beginning of 2018

The Q2 spews out alot of lumen given the fact that it only uses a single AAA battery...

According to SOG its 75 lumen. So, a decent amount but falls behind a Olight i3 or similar offerings. However, lumens are not everything, the reflector plays big too... especially, if you want a bit of throw.

It's the brightest single AAA light I own... since I've got 2 of those now...

I need to check out those Olights.
Is there a model that is below 15mm in diameter?

EDIT: Checked online.
The I3E EOS is only 13mm in diameter and 6cm long. This thing is perfect for my Skinth!
And €20? Great!

Well not everywhere, but 1 site offers the I3E in blue for only €12 so I'll probably wait for them to have a new stock (5 business days according to site)

Not thinking I have anything that qualifies as a penlight  Must look into those

Nick a I3E is a very excellent light and they are way bright for there size :ahhh I have a copper and the bigger brass cousin the I3S (180 lumens :o ) and am pleased with both of those :salute: The silver is 120 lumens (just as the copper is) but for some reason the regular colors are only 90 lumens  Still plenty bright for a single AAA light though :tu:

I keep a 2xaaa Maglite in my truck,  and therefore,  hardly use it. It's a great little light that is sized well for a kubaton.

I slipped my new Wuben tactical pen in the. Pic. It's a pen.  It's a light. Does it qualify?

I would say yes... same as the SOG Q2. Personally, I would count any flashlight that is rod-shaped (and at least as long as a Fisher Space Pen) with a pocket clip.

While in General not a fan of tactical pens, this one I find very interesting, because you get a pen and a flashlight. Best part, you can clip the flashlight (without the pen) to your baseball cap. Its the kind of versatility I truly like. So, without further ado:
 :worthless:

or to be precise:
MORE PICTURES :D

It is a bit heavy, but some non-alkaline batteries help a bit. However, you would need a pocket protector to carry it in the shirt pocket. I've carried it a few times and definitely knew it was in the pocket!
I have a 1950s version that looks like something from the Jetsons with chrome plate, but it hasn't been cleaned and restored yet.

I have enjoyed reading about some of these modern pen lights. I am a 2xAAA maglite user, but would love to invest in a penlight(any brand is fine) similar to the ones y'all have mentioned.  Soon. :)

The Olight I3E EOS was still not in stock at the cheapest webstore.
It was available/in stock in black for €21 while the blue one, at €12 remained out of stock

Noticed today that it was available in red AND in stock on the same site for €12 as well!
So I should receive the I3E EOS in red on thursday.
