Permanent saw blade for a Surge

I am thinking of losing the serrated knife blade and adding a saw blade, I just don't know where to source a suitable blade from, I have been looking at sabre saw blades but all the blades for wood seen a bit course and thin, I know the thickness is not such an issue, but the tooth pattern does not seem conducive to a smooth cut, and I do not want to use a blade designed for metal as I think it will clog to quick in green wood.

I was looking at the saw blade in the supertool but there does not look to be enough material there to modify so the lock will still work, plus I don;t want to leave my supertool with out a saw blade.

I would have thought try an ST300 one? Someone else here will be able to comment on any modification required...

Or maybe you can ask Loki for a MUT saw blade. Some modifications may be needed but I think that will fit better.

G'Day Snake,

I have taken some measurements of a MUT saw and include a few pics of what the possible mod might look like.
Length : 95mm
Thickness: 2.5mm

The saw is 1mm longer than the serrated blade and the same thickness. The saw also has a lot more metal around the pivot hole than the serrated blade. You may need to carefully file/sand some away to make it fit. I think it should work, however the saw blade will work better on the blade exchanger side due to the locking hole that will be in the correct inside spot. The last picture shows the saw on the blade exchanger where the second last pic is the saw on the serrated blade

I have an extra SS MUT saw, the one in the pics, that I don't need. You are welcome to it.

As you are probably aware from my previous post I wanted to change out the serrated blade for a saw blade, another member was kind enough to supply me with a blade from a MUT



Pin removed and it all came apart, I was surprised the the blade had 2 copper washer but the scissors only had the one.



The two blades lined up so I could see how much metal had to be removed



Getting there



Looks about right



Here's a before



And after 



Next came the de-dent to hold it shut as it was on the wrong side, I put a blob of black pen on the blade where I thought it should be, installed the blade and opened and closed it a couple of times to make the mark.



Then grind it out gently with a pencil grinder and carbide bit, not as neat as I would like but it won't be seen anyway.



All reassembled, as it came apart, and with a dab of lock-tight on the thread so it won't come apart during use.





And it even sits central in the slot.
 


All in all it took me about 1 1/2 hours, so a nice quick and easy mod. :tu:

That looks VERY good.

As the other said, a very worthwhile mod that has real benefits. The MUT saw works very well. I have given one a good workout cutting some fence posts up and it is still very sharp.

Thank you for this post and it is exact what i am looking for to modify my surge. Ordered Mut saw blades from Loki and will attempt to follow your foot step as soon as the goodie arrives.

Thanks for the kind and very practical post. Updated my Surge serrated blade with a mut saw. It took me a while to get the locking surface correct with the corresponding spring tab on the surge. i did not drill the detent hole as the saw blade is held pretty firmly just by friction. Did also grind a wave file to place it in the multiblade changer. it is a much beefier file than the stock one leatherman supplied.

Thanks a bunch... Now my every day carry LM surge is becoming a dream tool.

Serrated blade -> Mut saw
Blade exchanger -> wave diamond file
Med Flat Screw driver -> wave small eye glass screw driver (the medium flat is about the same size as the one from the screw driver bit)
pocket clip slot -> damascus removable long spike
RAE gear Belt carry one handed sheath
