As depicted by the picture, the needle nose are great. This morning I was attempting to tighten a size #2 brass screw, and as most of us knows, it snapped. Had to drill around the screw hole to extract the tiny broken threaded end left in the wood stock. I used my Spirit needle nose to grab that little smurf. I applied enough pressure on the handles to secure the jaws on the little smurf and half a turn with my wrist...It came out. I was very pleased.
Drilled out the messy hole and inserted a piece of dowel to make the hole strong again...
First task of removing broken screw was a success.

Spirit needle nose plier jaws: 1
Busted little brass screw imbedded 3/8th of an inch into birds eye maple: 0

Day 2

Tested out the wire cutters on some old rca cable

Worked pretty well but didn't cut the fine wire cleanly every time.

Sorry guys, I have to withdraw from this challenge for personal reasons. I wish you all a good time during this gruelling challenge. I shall also leave this wonderful community. It’s been very interesting, to say the least, to have met you good folks.

Having that said...
Day 1, quite reluctant since Marc's news... couldn't be sadder at the moment.

Mounted an electrical heater that I removed prior to the office renovations. It's an older model that came with the house.

In noticed this morning that the blades were not quite as sharp as they should be so did a little day one maintenance.
The butter blade had a rolled edge but my diamond multi-sharp made quick work of the serrated blade. The Lansky turnbox took care of the PE blade.    :tu:

Marc, very sorry to read you have had to pull out. I hope you are well and can come back and rejoin us when you can!  :salute:

Day 01:

I didn't switch over to to Spirit carry yesterday until later in the day, so I figured this is Day 1 for me. I've been busy shoveling snow much of the day. We've gotten around 10" or so of new snow in the past two days, so I've had a lot of shoveling to do. Cars are still buried! As a result, my primary tool has been a large shovel today. Spirit was unsheathed for a challenge shot:

Looking forward to your thoughts after carrying a Rebar. The LMs have some advantages, as I found out when I carried a Charge for a month, but the little Spirit holds up well to most comparisons in my experience. Good luck Nix!

I am going to call this Day 2 and this way I can finish my challenge before my trip :salute:

I started the day out with this gear

Then I brought the Spirit into service freeing this brother from another mother :D

The butter knife blade was sufficient to cut the blister pack open but I sure would have liked a PE blade

Now if I can only wait until February to carry it :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh :o

I know but I have to learn to trust that blade  The blade is doing great so far and I haven't found anything it can't cut but I miss a PE on my MT :D

Next time you need to try out the sharp edge of the chisel. It excels at opening packaging.  I like the butter blade. I find it elegant, but I always carry a one hand opening plain edge knife with my Spirit because sometimes you just need to cut something in a hurry and you don't want to mess around with deploying the MT.

On the SE vs PE note, I carried a Spirit for a while several years ago and the butter blade is ok but I too prefer a PE blade.  To that end I jumped all over the Spirit I will be performing the challenge with.  My Spirit has a few mods.  First fixing one of the few faults of Vic MTs  and Knives is the flat heads have all been "sharpened" no rounded edges so they don't slip as often.  Second the pliars are modded to be more true neeldle nose.  Still not sure if this is an improvement or just differant.  Third the butter blade has been reprofiled and is now a PE wich I realy like.  I will give the SE due respect and say that when maintained well it is far superior on fiberious material, rope, belts, etc... and soft filmed items such as tomatos.  For the most part my everyday MT cutting needs don't include these items often and a well maintained PE will even do them efficiently if one knows how to use a knife.

At least you did a good job of the re-profiling.  I've seen some former serrated blades that had just been sharpened away on a stone to supposedly a straight edge, but the owners left nubs where the serrations had been so it was kind of wavey.
