What happened.........
on: January 08, 2018, 11:32:58 AM
So......how did I go from Mr I-don't-like-anything-that-needs-batteries to 4 flashlights

I had the Mini Maglight, non-LED, carried that for a week or 2 and realised what I've been missing out on.....

Bought an I3 EOS, and just loved it!

About a week later I'm in another shop, and I spot a Nitecore display  .........everything on discount so I walked out with a Tube.

The Tube has replaced the I3 as my EDC for no reason other than I mind it being beat up in my pocket a bit less, and it's USB rechargeable.

I liked the I3 EOS so much I decided to buy some loved ones a bit of light for their lives.......and while I was there started looking at the S10R (with 15% discount)..........and that went home with me

To be honest that was wasteful, I really don't need it, but I do like having it and I use it often enough.

I'm here to say I won't buy any more, fortunately flashlights don't have the same effect as knives, but the EDC item that I shunned for so long has become the most used and indispensable item in my pocket  :salute:

And there you touch on the heart of the matter......

The S10R and the Tube are rechargeable, the Tube regularly switches on in my pocket, and still haven't charged them after the first time........let's say just before xmas.

I'm guessing the i3 will last for a very long time on that AAA.

Currently I have the 4 mentioned flashlights, as well as the biggest D-cell Maglight which was a gift, fortunately opened it up only to find the batteries leaking....
Manage to prevent any damage, but I never replaced the batteries........4 (I think) D-cell driving a LED will probably never run out before the batteries fail

Then I have a basic Petzl headlamp, the blue 2 LED model, and this is a firm favourite......nothing spectacular but utterly dependable.

Next is one of the higher model LED Lenser headlights, very good performance but it just eats batteries, and a number of things about it drives me crazy.

I have a bunch of rechargeable AAA batteries that mostly need to be thrown away......

The S10R has basically replaced the LED Lenser when it comes to going out to see why the dogs are barking.

Hiking or camping....Petzl all the way, but the Tube and i3 will likely get into that mix.

The S10R is one of my favorites.  I havent got a tube but I am liking it more and more over time.  Theres something simple and nice about having light.  Every time I've left my light ( in the past ) at home or in my vehicle, Ive needed it.

you can lockout the tube, while its turned on, hold the button down until it flashes, to unlock just hold button down until it comes on, so you can prevent accidental pocket activation.

Exactly how do you do that?!

When it's ON in the lowest setting, pressing the button will cycle through all intensities, from lower to higher. When it's ON on the highest setting, it just turns OFF.

your pressing it too fast after your first click to low, that lets it ramp up. one click on, wait 3 seconds then press and hold untill it flashes once, then it will be in lockout

in high mode you may not be holding it long enough to activate lockout

I know, functions are pretty sweet and simple  :tu:

......but I figured why bother, still haven't needed to recharge, so if my face doesn't scare them, maybe the realization I keep a firefly captive in my pocket will terrify them!

Saw this video. Tried to replicate the same action but it doesn't work. Either it starts to cycle from low to high and back again or it just turns off, no flashing even if I keep pressing it for more than 10sec.

Something like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDEemyEgXwQ

See the comments. Some say the newer ones don't have this feature (probably replaced by the intensity adjust mode).

It was the pre Christmas sale but they got lost then came late, they added an extra one for my trouble  :)

I think I might still have the Tube package, I'll try to find it and see the production date. Maybe it helps to determine if it's lockable or not...
