Weight of WWII 'U.S. Marine Corp' Demo Knife?
on: January 15, 2018, 09:16:26 PM
Does anyone here have an old World War II 'Demo' knife, the kind that usually have 'Kingston' stamped on the shackle?

It should be stamped 'U.S. Marine Corps' on the scale (as opposed to just U.S. or U.S.M.C).

If you have one in pretty much complete condition, is there a chance I could talk you into weighing it, and possibly checking the scales to see if they're magnetic?

I suspect that the original 'Demo' or 'Scout' knife, or whatever you want to call it, did in fact have Aluminum Oxide scales, as per WWII Army Specifications, but were switched to steel when Camillus took over the production in 1957. Just a theory. Also, I'd just like the weight of the tool to compare to modern replicas.

Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated.

The tool I'm talking about looks like this...

I thought I'd follow up on this.

I asked a seller on ebay, who was selling one of these to check the tool for me.

The scales are steel. I find it odd, since the original Army contract speficied Aluminum. Stranger still, the pins are steel. THAT is strange because the pins on the Camillus Demo knife (MIL-K knife) are Nickel Silver. And that's specifically stated in the MIL-K-818D specification.

So...

Also, I apparently fell into a deep 'WWII Military Issue Pocket Knife' hole. It is a DEEP hole, too.

Yes, scales where steel on both Kingston versions,  1944 and 1945 ( with another tools position)
