If you're getting rid of the mag glass, I say add a dedicated hole for the key chain, and an oxygen tank key.

Hmmz this might be too much but what about a seat belt cutter? The blade is not exposed, can't cut your self.

Great concept and design work Dough! :tu: Nice job so far!

.....Reducing the curve of the prybar portion might make it better for pocket carry, though it reduces the leverage.....

I agree that it might be worth considering reducing the prybar curve. In addition to the points Max makes, it would also allow the tool to be produced from thinner stock, and require less material to be milled away. (big cost and time savings?)

Also, is the bottle opener "hook" a bit too delicate in your design? How about sweeping the radius underneath the hook into it for added strength?

See picture below:

Wish I had a slab of Titanium laying around. I'd send ya some, but then I don't and machining Ti takes special equipment. The final product will be made out of stainless steel?

Awesome idea J-Sews! It is pretty damn strong as it, but this will just make it invincible! Haha, great idea man.  The prybar, however, will be BENT to that curve, not milled out.  So the stock will be the same regardless.  What we were thinking about trying is doing a double bend, similar to the Gerber artifact.  You still get the crowbill curve, but the prybar lays almost in the same plane at the whole tool.

Also a note, the gap between the open "prongs" of the wrench will have a clasp that goes between them.  This will solve 3 problems.
1) Allow you to easily attach/detach from keychain.
2) Cover the screwdriver end so it doesnt poke you *OUCH*
3) Give added strength to the wrench.  You can use it as a semi-box end, or if you cant get to the bolt with a box end, open the clasp, engage the nut, close the clasp, then wrench on it.

I like the seatbelt cutter idea, this is something we might have to look into if we get rid of the magnifying glass.

Also, someone said put a flathead on the other wrench "prong".  This wouldnt work, because you need clearance for the part to swing aroud  while using the screwdriver.  If the two prongs at the end were the same length, the one not being used as a driver would scratch the surface of the part, this is why there is such a large difference in lengths of the prongs.

Keep the ideas comin guys, and the first post now has actual pictures of the prototype!!!!

I have the equipment to machine titanium, but the actual parts are going to be most probably 440C stainless.

Now we are only missing the slab  :P. All jokes aside but an oxygen key + seat belt cutter can come in handy for EMS personnel. The key is just a small cut out, not hard to do. Good job!!! Keep it up.

I could certainly do that.  If its real popular maybe ill post it on knife forums or blade forums, see if those guys want em.  However, MT.org will get exclusive, limited editions!

By the way, the "company" name, which the logo can be seen in the CAD near the pry bar, is Morrow & Lamb Custom Tools.  I'm thinking about calling this model the "companion" but I'm not sure if thats taken/stupid lol.

I'm favoring the Doughboy.

And now that I look at it, I'm starting to wonder about the ergonomics. =o

I agree it looks a little funny, but it feels pretty comfortable in the hands for all of the operations.  Thats why we went through a couple design changes to make it fit better in the hand.  I want to kind of keep away from the "Dough" type names, even though i do love them haha, cause its also alot of work done by my friend Kenny along with me.

Here's a link to the page in the "for sale" section of the forums.  I've also included the link in the original post in this thread.

Give me you're ideas as to a price range you guys are looking for.  I can then scale the complexity of manufacturing and type of material (mostly gonna vary between different kinds of steels) that the part will be made of.  Like I said we havent begun machining yet so i'm not sure of the price range, but me and my friend are gonna keep it low cause we dont mind putting alot of work into these....its fun  :ahhh.

I'm having a hard time understanding this "clasp" concept Dough. Can you elaborate?

were probably gonna hit around 25-30 bucks for the price, but that includes shipping and handeling and a percentage of the proceeds going to MT.org

The final price will almost certainly change, hopefully lower ::)  This is just a very vague initial guess though, ill keep you guys updated.

For the clasp idea, let me put it this way. The photo shows a clasp going from one prong to the other, covering the screwdriver, giving it more strength, and making it easy to remove from keychains.

Bread Man that there tool looks very cool. I am very envious of metal making, clever folk .I bombed out of the fitting & turning module at trade school many moons ago. Could a spark plug gap tool be incorporated?Regardless of the final tool format I will find it hard too resist buying one of those . I think I have a magnet in me that has a strong attraction to cool tools :D :D. BTW thanks for sharing & involving us in such a cool project :salute: :salute:

I would love it if you can keep the magnifier.  It gives it a unique selling point, and that is no bad thing. :salute:

You know gateth, i agree.  Thats the reason it has been hard for me to eliminate it from the design.  Nothing else really has one, other than a Vic explorer.  I find that sometimes i carry the explorer JUST to get the magnifier!!! This will be a tad bit smaller viewing area than the already small Vic glass version of their magnifier, but a small magnifier is better than no magnifier when you need one!.  I'm still debating between acrylic or glass.... acrylic is stronger and wont break, might scratch over time, but can be buffed back to optically clear very easily.  Glass is just better and wont really scratch, but might break....

I'm having a hard time finding a supplier of double convex lens that will fit into my design though...

Would you guys be interested in a prelimary steel or aluminum prototype pass around so you can feel it for yourselves?  I'll make one or two very soon and send it out to the first person on the list...they carry it or use it for a day then send it to the next person on the list and so on, the last person just sends it back to me.  This way you guys can get a feel for the tool and those of you who arent sure if you want to get one can make up your mind.  I think you'll want one after you feel it firsthand!!! :pok: :pok:
