Oops.. so how do you get file dust out of SwissTool.. ?

Hey guys,

Got a new SwissTool as a local retailer was removing their last models before xmas. However, the one I got had a really stiff opening. So I took a file to take down the spring-resisting bump a bit. Seems to work, but of course now I seem to have some tiny bits of metal dust that have found their way into between the tools, and are effectively acting as tiny bits of sand there, grinding when you pull out the tools!  ::)

So, any ideas how to get the tiny metal bits out? It's riveted, so no easy takedown. Could I do something to make them come out faster?

I actually was thinking maybe I could boil the tool :D Hopefully the small thermal expansion would help and maybe also it could help the metal bits to oxidize into rust  ???

My old teacher said that one should never get dirt out with compressed air.. "you will just move it somewhere else" but I would try.. That or sink it in hot water (not boiling) and open and close the tools over and over again

Dousing the tool pivots with penetrating fluid while you work them back and forth may help if the hot soap bath doesnt work.

A late suggestion, but a can of high pressure brake cleaner with the straw attatched is what works for me. Also, if you want to try a air compressor, but don't have access to one, try some of the compressed canned air stuff for dusting off keyboards.

Be very cautious using brake cleaner. That is nasty stuff.
