Leatherman Bit Spork!
on: January 19, 2018, 06:11:48 AM
Was scanning the web for new sheaths and bits I haven't seen yet and came across this on shapeways.

I am not affiliated with the creator or the site

What's everyone think??

Looks like you can order them in black, red, white and stainless steel

I do not see the reason to inconvenience yourself with fitting this in the MT. I do like it, but why not just have a proper spoon and fork?

I second this totally. I can never understand that as well. I am ok with those MTs that have all these forks, spoons built in. But not something like reinventing the wheel all over over again...  ???

I looks strange. And i not convinced, that it will work as good as a separate fork and spoon.
And - do you really need a fork in the wilderness? I mean, you have the MT with its pliers or the knife...

Still looks cool. Doesnt it drop out easily? Sucks if you have to fish this spoon out from your soup with pliers. :)

Only if you have a locking bit holder otherwise you'll be fishing your spork out of your hot beans.

I like the novelty. Cool!  But yeah like some folks said just get a camping spork or something.

Since I’m a messy eater I would just had to deal with the inconvenience of cleaning the MT.

It’s cool though.

I have no experience with 3d printing but wouldn't the plastic versions be effected by heat?

Thumbs down on this, who in the heck would want to carry that thing around? I’ll use my hands if I get  that desperate.

That's a good point, you're going to get a severely gunked up pivot on your MT and cleaning it out sufficiently in the field for hygienic eating with the spork at the next meal? Not sure....

If you can carry the spork bit, can't you carry a spork?

I bought one of these thinking it would be more useful than it really is. It sits unused in my backpack

Coghlan's Hobo (what I use, usually kept in mess kit with Esbit and cookpot). All metal, knife, fork, spoon, openers--Around $4.

Light My Fire Spork(another of the things I use, usually in my lunchbox)--$4 for a two pack, plus a few cents, say fifty cents roughly, for a P-38 for can opening.

Plastic disposable Utensils from a restaurant--free.

This thing, $9 for plastic, $48 for Stainless. And the plastic version "can't be used in hot liquids". Never had that issue with my plastic Light My Fire.  Not to mention, you'll probably have to do some fitting to make it stay in the bit holder.
