Pablo, the cause of an action is an affect. The result of the affect is the effect. The wind (the cause of the action) affected the leaves in the trees. The leaves in the trees were effected (the result) by the wind. Don't worry, it only took me 50 years to figure it out and then my sister who is a professional editor and proof reader told me that they are rarely used correctly so either is acceptable according to common usage.
