There are rumors that the BK4 is being discontinued. Whether or not that's true, the price does seem to be very low right now at around $65. I'd go with it now, then BK9 later  >:D

Thank you G and SG. The BK4, 5, 15 are being disco'd. There are some good prices out there for those who might be interested in those Becker knives.

I've been wanting a Becker Magnum Camp since back when they had shiny blades but they were discontinued before I could save the money to buy one.....just love the shape of that big blade.

I should have the funds to make it happen in a week or so....

Just got a Mora Light My Fire

What I wasn't expecting was the micro bevel on the edge

Anyone else come across this? I thought it would be zero degree. Do I now re sharpen to zero?

The idea that ALL scandi ground knifes are zero ground is a bit of a myth AFAIK.  I know my new Helle knife sharpening guide shows putting on a micro bevel.  Also a Finnish bladesmith I knew always maintained that it wasn't necessarily the right thing and a he put a micro bevel on most of his knives.

Personally I'm happy to put a micro bevel on a general purpose knife and keep a zero degree bevel for my more woodworking aimed knives.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

:-[ I may have made a comment on this topic not to long ago,  :D I may since have found out what an edge roll really looks like, and that a micro bevel on a scandi grind may be better  :D

+1!!! All my Moras have a micro bevel on them and on the super high HRC (61-62) blades like the Frosts laminates, it makes for a more robust edge, less prone to chipping/deformation.

This arrived yesterday....

Blackjack Warner-Moran Rio Grande Bowie

Backstory: (1990 factory lit and sources)

"The Warner Moran Rio Grande camp bowie......is a recreation of the original made 23 years ago. In 1967 now famous author Ken Warner contacted his close friend, master bladesmith and founder of the "American Bladesmith Society", Bill Moran with a special request. Warner had just been offered an "in country" assignment to cover the Viet Nam conflict. He needed a knife that would cut and chop while also having defensive capabilities in the Bush. After much discussion, both men came up with a large version of the classic 19th Century Rio Grande Spearpoint Bowie. The pattern was very popular in the early and mid 1800's because of it's versatility in rugged use, under extreme conditions. This was the first Rio Grande of this size Moran ever made."

The Blade is forged CS51 (Seki equivalent of 5160) Carbon steel.

My old 511 with the new pals!

Mora craftline pro stainless (12c), and a BK24 D'Eskabar (D2).

It's my first D2 knife, and   It's so smooth, it doesn't feel like it'll ever rust either. Though the only tools or knives I've ever had issues with were leatherman  ::)

Now to find a use for a fixed blade..

Thanks D-Mac!!! From what I can tell 2500 were made in Honduran Rosewood, 600 of which were for Blackjack. It was made in stag and black micarta too (100 each). This was one of Mike Stewart's projects when he was at Blackjack.  He's at Bark River Knives now.
