I'm pretty certain Bark River Knives makes all the Classic Blackjack models now, and Bark River handles warranty repair for Blackjack knives. So Mike Stewart seems to still be involved in their production.

You are exactly right bud! I had forgotten that they were making the Blackjacks now. My only Blackjacks are from the 90's so I had forgotten the new connection.

Thanks Gareth!!!  About like I've used my Trail Master, around the farm and such...my health prevents me from camping anymore....damn it.  :(   Going to have to learn how to sharpen convex edges for this one and my Trail Master so I'll cut some different stuff to see how the edges hold up. I'll keep it nice like all my blades.

Right now, pretty much just drinking it in and getting used to the balance...it a bit more blade heavy than my TM but still hefts very nice.

You could always take the easy way out and get a Worksharp. As a mini belt sander, it can do a convex edge. I'm sure a commercial belt sander is how your knives got their original edges :)

That interests me but I better try the trad methods first.  I did save the link if I'm a failure at the stropping thing (which is so counter intuitive to me and the way I've done it for 40+ years).

Thanks David!! Now I really have to learn to sharpen convex edges....

Cant help you there my friend. Dont know how either. I'm not even sure what a convex edge is. They talk alot about them over on the BK&T forum at BF espically on the BK4. I've been around knives and sharpening them most all my life but dont really seem to understand what all the fuse is about the convex grind. Maybe I can learn something new?    :)

Think opposite of hollow grind (think of hollow grind as concave, rounded inward) and for your edge bevel (not sure the technical term, just, the bevel that does the cutting) I'll attach a pic I'm gonna draw :tu:

It can be accomplished with sandpaper on a mouse pad, and trailing the edge when you sharpen.

Bark River Essential with M4 steel. SG I forgot about this knife. It has an convex edge. I've had it for a while but havent used it much. I guess I'll be learning how to sharpen a convex edge sooner than I thought. I'm off to order Bark Rivers sharpening kit from KSF.      :D

Love me some moras. I just have to get one with a wood handle. Do they still make the one with the finger guard on the edge side, like the 511?
